Verification of Boundary Conditions Applied to Active Flow Circulation Control

open access: yesAerospace, 2019
Inclusion of Active Flow Control (AFC) into Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations is usually highly time-consuming and requires extensive computational resources and effort.

Active control of flow and heat transfer in silicon microchannels

open access: yes, 2010
Boiling heat transfer in silicon microchannels needs high walls and liquid superheats for bubble nucleation, leading to a strong thermal non-equilibrium between vapor and liquid phases, which not only damages the heat transfer device at the start-up ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

In-sewer sedimentation associated with active flow control

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2009
Active flow control using automated gates and weirs aims to utilise available dispersed storage within sewer systems to alleviate the severity and frequency of localised flooding incidents. Whilst a previous study has demonstrated its potential, a key operational concern before implementation was sedimentation. An experimental programme was designed to

Vibration suppression of wind turbine nacelle with active electromagnetic mass damper systems using adaptive backstepping control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Many structural systems, such as wind turbines, are exposed to high levels of stress during operation. This is mainly because of the flow-induced vibrations caused by the wind load encountered in every tall structure.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Opposition control within the resolvent analysis framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper extends the resolvent analysis of McKeon & Sharma (2010) to consider flow control techniques that employ linear control laws, focusing on opposition control (Choi et al. 1994) as an example.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Aerodynamic Drag Reduction and Optimization of MIRA Model Based on Plasma Actuator

open access: yesActuators, 2020
Active flow control of surface dielectric barrier discharge (SDBD) plasma is a technology that converts electrical energy into kinetic energy to achieve flow control. Its main application areas are concentrated in the aviation field.
