Multi-Scale CNN Based Garbage Detection of Airborne Hyperspectral Data
Garbage detection is important for environmental monitoring in large areas. However, the manual patrol is time-consuming and labor-intensive. This paper proposes a method for monitoring garbage distribution in large areas with airborne hyperspectral data.

On the refractive index for a nonmagnetic two-component medium: resolution of a controversy
The refractive index of a dielectric medium comprising both passive and inverted components in its permittivity was determined using two methods: (i) in the time domain, a finite-difference algorithm to compute the frequency-domain reflectance from ...

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

Development of large aperture elements for active and adaptive optics
Large-aperture elements for laser active and adaptive optics are investigated in collaboration within IOP AcSci CR, FEng CTU and 5M. A bimorph deformable mirror for high-power lasers based on a lightweight structure with a composite core is currently ...

Quantum optical effective-medium theory for layered metamaterials
The quantum optics of metamaterials starts with the question whether the same effective-medium theories apply as in classical optics. In general the answer is negative.

Eddington limited starbursts in the central 10pc of AGN, and the Torus in NGC1068 [PDF]
We present results from a survey of nearby AGN using the near infrared adaptive optics integral field spectrograph SINFONI. These data enable us to probe the distribution and kinematics of the gas and stars at spatial resolutions as small as 0.085arcsec.

Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...
