Effective Data Augmentation for Active Sonar Classification Using Attention-Based Complementary Learning With Uncertainty Measure

open access: yesIEEE Access
We enhance the performance of active sonar classification by integrating a validated attention-based complementary learning model (ABCL) with an active learning (AL) framework, following modifications to adapt the model for AL.

Biomimetic Sonar for Electrical Activation of the Auditory Pathway [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sensors, 2017
Relying on the mechanism of bat’s echolocation system, a bioinspired electronic device has been developed to investigate the cortical activity of mammals in response to auditory sensorial stimuli. By means of implanted electrodes, acoustical information about the external environment generated by a biomimetic system and converted in electrical signals ...

Redefining Optimal Coverage Path Planning for FLS‐Equipped AUVs With Deep Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) have emerged as indispensable tools for a variety of subsea tasks, from habitat monitoring and seabed mapping to infrastructure inspection and mine countermeasures. A fundamental challenge in this field is Coverage Path Planning (CPP), the problem of ensuring complete and efficient area coverage.

Design and Testing of a Minimal Configuration Underwater Micro‐Glider: Automating Lake and Reservoir Monitoring

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) have transformed oceanographic research through autonomous data gathering. Similarly, lake and other aquatic research can potentially be automated and transformed. However, UUVs would need to be smaller, lighter, less complex, and cheaper than currently available to make them more practical and user‐friendly

Validation of a Particle Image Velocimetry Algorithm Through Comparative Field and Laboratory Analysis

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Flow velocity measurement is fundamental to hydrological and hydraulic studies, providing essential data for streamflow estimation and river dynamics analysis. Traditional in situ methods like propeller gauges and acoustic Doppler current profilers are accurate but intrusive and labour‐intensive, while non‐intrusive image processing methods ...

From snapshots to continuous estimates: Augmenting citizen science with computer vision for fish monitoring

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This study presents an end‐to‐end computer‐vision pipeline for monitoring fish migration using underwater video. We integrate field camera deployment, annotation, model training and automated in‐season counting to generate continuous, high‐resolution data on river herring spawning migration.
