Active Twist Blades: Electromechanical Damping

Volume 2: Mechanics and Behavior of Active Materials; Integrated System Design and Implementation; Bio-Inspired Materials and Systems; Energy Harvesting, 2012
Active Twist Rotor Blades for helicopter main rotors have been developed for the use in secondary control such as higher harmonic control (HHC) and individual blade control (IBC). The basic principle of such blades is the implementation of piezoelectric actuators into the blades causing the blades to twist.

Measurement of twist deflection in active twist rotor

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2011
Since the early days of rotary wing aircrafts the unsteady flow conditions in the rotor disk and unbalanced masses are causing intense vibratory loads and noise. Even modern helicopters still suffer from these drawbacks. This diminishes the ride quality as well as the public acceptance of rotary wing aircrafts.

Active Reconfigurable Tristable Square‐Twist Origami

Advanced Functional Materials, 2020
AbstractOrigami structures offer valuable applications in many fields, ranging from metamaterials to robotics. The multistable characteristics of origami structures have been pursued for acquiring unique reconfigurable features. For achieving this goal, an unusual polymeric tristable origami structure is demonstrated using a classic square‐twist ...

An Unprecedented Twist to ODCase Catalytic Activity

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
Orotidine-5'-monophosphate decarboxylase (ODCase) has evolved to catalyze a decarboxylation reaction, most probably via a carbanion species at the C6 position of orotidine-5'-monophosphate. We reveal an unusual biochemical pathway of conversion of 6-cyano-uridine-5'-monophosphate by ODCase to barbiturate-5'-monophosphate via perhaps an electrophilic ...

Active Twist Rotor for Wind Tunnel Investigations

ASME 2010 Conference on Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures and Intelligent Systems, Volume 2, 2010
This paper describes the design and manufacturing of active twist rotor blades for the use as secundary control of a helicopter main rotor. These blades have been developed at the DLR in Braunschweig, Germany over the last years. Special features of the blade are the capability to twist individual sections of the blade. It is planned to equip the blade
