A flexible system for recording activity of caged animals
Physiology & Behavior, 1973Abstract A flexible, sensitive system for continuous recording of activity in caged animals is described. The system can be adapted for animals of different body size. The animal cage rests on a pneumatic system, comprised of four compressible rubber pads, coupled via vacuum tubing to an aluminum pan covered with a rubber diaphragm.

Caged molecules activated by light
1991Abstract This chapter deals with practical aspects in the use of light activated ‘caged’ molecules in studies of cellular regulation. The term ‘caged’ was originally coined by Kaplan et al. (1) to describe the unique properties of a l(2-nitrophenyl)ethyl ester of ATP which was called caged ATP.

A continuous activity monitor for small caged animals
Physiology & Behavior, 1970Abstract A simple system for continuously monitoring activity of small caged animals has been developed. The system, comprising a piezo-electric transducer, diode rectifier and low-pass filter, can be used with any appropriate recording d.c. voltmeter and is suitable for long term application.

Sterically bulky caging for light-inducible protein activation
Chemical Communications, 2013A method for caging a target protein with steric regulator molecules was developed to enable simple, strict, light-induced control of protein activity.

Activity Measurement in Revolving and Immobile Cages
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1971A device is described which, registering at alternate trigger points, automatically gives analogous measures of activity defined as entrances into track segments of 180° or less in either a revolving or a circular immobile cage.

The use of time-lapse and normal speed photography as a tool in evaluating the effect of cage size on physical activity in the beagle dog was examined. Normal speed motion pictures also served to demonstrate the degree of physical activity possible within specific sized cages, and the effect of changes in external activity on the dogs' activity within ...

Biologically active peptides caged on tyrosine.
Methods in enzymology, 1998We have demonstrated the feasibility of preparing caged peptides by derivatizing a single amino acid side chain in peptides up to 20 amino acids long. Two peptides are illustrated whose activities are reduced by nearly 2 orders of magnitude using this caging approach.
