Stable isotope tempestology of tropical cyclones across the North Atlantic and Eastern Pacific Ocean basins. [PDF]
Tropical cyclones (TCs) are one of the major natural hazards to island and coastal communities and ecosystems. However, isotopic compositions of TC‐derived precipitation (P) in surface water (SW) and groundwater (GW) reservoirs are still lacking. We tested the three main assumptions of the isotope storm “spike” hypothesis (sudden spikes in isotopic ...

Challenges and Experiences of Managed Aquifer Recharge in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area
Abstract The Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) is a significant and important urban center in North America, covering an area of approximately 9500 km2 with a population of almost 23 million, yet the water supply remains unsustainable. The total water demand in the MCMA is 84 m3/s and is provided by groundwater (63% or 53 m3/s), imported water (27 ...

Victims crossing overflowing watercourses with vehicles in Spain
Abstract Heavy rainfall causes many watercourses to overflow. In these circumstances, crossing by car even on a road, can be extremely dangerous; however, dozens of drivers are swept away every year in their vehicles. This paper analyses this type of accident in Spain between 2008 and 2018, recording the date, location, number of victims, age and ...

Abstract Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) represents a promising technique to cope with increasing water stress worldwide. However, it can be challenging to operate MAR systems, especially concerning clogging. Clogging reduces the infiltration capacity and system efficiency of a MAR facility.

Antidiabetic Activity of Aloe vera Leaves
This research evaluated the potential of using the methanol extract of Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f (AVM) to prevent the formation of AGEs by means of the BSA/glucose assay, BSA‐methylglyoxal assay, arginine‐methylglyoxal assay, fructosamine, Nɛ‐(carboxymethyl) lysine (CML), thiol groups, and carbonyl protein in vitro.

Design Proposal of a Prototype for Sawdust Pellet Manufacturing through Simulation
Mexican industry generates tons of organic wastes that are not used and cause social, environmental, and health problems. The main organic residue which is generated during wood production is the sawdust (biomass). In order to reduce the problems generated by its waste, a prototype to manufacture biofuel pellets was designed by considering a flat die ...

Effect of Telmisartan in the Oxidative Stress Components Induced by Ischemia Reperfusion in Rats
The therapeutic effects of telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist and a peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor‐γ (PPAR‐γ) agonist, have been demonstrated in several disorders. It has antioxidant and immune response modulator properties and has shown promising results in the treatment of an ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) lesion.

Design, Construction, and Operation of a High‐Energy Mill for Handling Magnesium Powder
A high‐energy mill was designed and built with the purpose of processing magnesium (Mg) powders. The main characteristics of the mill are grinding capacity of 1 kg and demolition elements of 10 kg; it has a distributed form to the interior ten blades of similar geometry, six of which are of the same size and four of them were increased in length in ...

Fuel consumption has been increasing in recent years, especially that of diesel and jet fuel. For this reason, the necessity to build new plants to reduce their sulfur content has arisen. Sometimes, just revamping existing plants is feasible, but determining which pieces of equipment are in the appropriate condition to be reused is also necessary.
