The Systemic Reaction During Inflammation: The Acute-Phase Proteins

Protein & Peptide Letters, 2002
The acute-phase response consists in a large number of behavioural, physiologic, biochemical, and nutritional changes involving many organ systems distant from the site, or sites, of inflammation. One of the most investigated, but still not well understood, characteristic of the acute phase is the up-regulation, or down- regulation, of many plasma ...

Acute phase reaction, fibrinogen level and thrombus size

Thrombosis Research, 1989
The influence of an acute phase reaction on the size, weight, and fibrin content of experimental venous thrombi was examined in 10 pairs of rabbits. Jugular vein thrombosis was provoked by venous stasis plus mechanical injury 36 hours after one member of each pair received 0.5 ml/kg sterile turpentine in olive oil by subcutaneous injection.

The acute phase reaction detected in dogs by concanavalin A binding

Veterinary Research Communications, 1985
Using a kinetic turbidimetric assay based on the binding of serum glycoprotein to concanavalin A the acute phase reaction has been detected in dogs. Raised levels of glycoprotein were found in dogs which had undergone surgery, had been treated with bacterial endotoxin and had various inflammatory conditions.

Regulation of acute phase reaction in rat adjuvant arthritis

Agents and Actions, 1986
Local low dose injection of actinomycin D into the inflamed tissue as well as administration of a glucocorticoid antagonist is apparently suitable for investigating the regulation of acute phase reactionin vivo. The acute phase protein synthesis in the liver is apparently triggered by several factors derived from the inflamed tissue, not only by one ...

Acute Phase Reaction of the Exocrine Pancreas

Digestion, 1997
In different tissues alteration of protein synthesis has been observed during acute stress. In this review we characterise the modulation of pancreatic protein synthesis during inflammation. A sustained decrease of mRNA levels of secretory enzymes is accompanied by noncoordinated alterations of protein synthesis during the acute phase and the recovery ...

Acute Phase Reaction Following Intravenous Administration of Streptokinase

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1974
SummarySK-therapy regularly is followed by a marked elevation of those plasma proteins known as “acute phase reactants” (α 1-antitrypsin, orosomucoid, β 1 C-globulin, ceruloplasmin). In short-time therapy of myocardial infarction also a transitory presence of CRP is demonstrable.

Hepatic acute phase reaction in vivo and in vitro

In Vitro Cellular & Developmental Biology, 1989
Hepatic acute phase response is defined as the metabolic reaction of the liver to systemic tissue injury (93). The most prominent change is seen in the pattern of plasma proteins synthesized by the liver (84). The production, and consequently the plasma concentration, of a number of proteins, termed the acute phase reactants, is increased whereas that ...

The Effect of T-2 Toxin on the Acute Phase Reaction in Mice

Journal of the American College of Toxicology, 1985
The effects of T-2 toxin on a murine model of the acute phase response were studied. Two murine acute phase reactants, serum amyloid P component and plasma fibronectin, were measured after subcutaneous and intraperitoneal administration of T-2 toxin in varying doses. No acute phase response was observed.

Hemodynamic reactions in the acute phase of massive pulmonary embolism

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1997
Massive pulmonary embolism is accompanied by the differences between a decrease in systemic and peripheral blood flow and imbalanced blood ejection from the ventricles. The results of the study suggest an association of these hemodynamic responses with redistribution of blood outflows from systemic veins whereby the relative proportion of blood ...

Acute phase reaction, infarct size and in-hospital morbidity in myocardial infarction patients treated with streptokinase or recombinant tissue type plasminogen activator.

Annals medicus, 1991
We examined the acute phase reaction in myocardial infarction after thrombolytic treatment by streptokinase or tissue plasminogen activator. The magnitude of the acute phase reaction as determined by measurements of serum C-reactive protein and amyloid-A
