Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Acute pancreatitis presenting as acute scrotum

BMJ Case Reports, 2023
Acute pancreatitis can lead to pancreatic and peripancreatic collections that can spread in the retroperitoneum to varying extents based on the severity of the pancreatitis. We present here an unusual case of pancreatitis where the patient presented with an acute scrotum as a result of extension of peripancreatic inflammation to the scrotum.

Acute Coronary and Acute Aortic Syndromes

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 2019
Multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT) can provide crucial information and rapid triage of emergency department patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or acute aortic syndrome (AAS). Coronary computed tomography angiography has high negative predictive value to rule out ACS, and MDCT is diagnostic for AAS and its variants ...

Acute Pancreatitis

Current Opinion in Critical Care, 2010
To review the changing insights in the pathophysiology and management of acute pancreatitis. The outdated 1992 Atlanta classification has been replaced by two new classifications, both of which acknowledge the role of organ dysfunction in determining the outcome of acute pancreatitis, and both of which have introduced a new category of 'moderate ...

ACUTE GLAUCOMA SIMULATING ACUTE IRITIS

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1951
There is usually no difficulty in distinguishing an attack of acute primary glaucoma from acute iritis. However, if the patient is first seen soon after the hypertensive phase has spontaneously subsided, the condition may be easily mistaken for acute iritis. This occurred in the case to be reported. P.

Acute leukaemia masquerading as acute abdomen

Hospital Medicine, 2002
This article reports three patients with acute leukaemia who presented with acute abdomen as the first manifestation of the disease. Leukaemic infiltrates of the bowel and appendix may have caused the abdominal symptoms in these patients. Acute leukaemia should be included in the differential diagnosis of severe abdominal pain associated with an ...
