Management of Acute Aortic Dissection

open access: yesLancet, The, 2015
A new appraisal of the management of acute aortic dissection is timely because of recent developments in diagnostic strategies (including biomarkers and imaging), endograft design, and surgical treatment, which have led to a better understanding of the epidemiology, risk factors, and molecular nature of aortic dissection.

Acute Aortic Dissection

Lancet, The, 2023
Although substantial progress has been made in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of acute aortic dissection, it remains a complex cardiovascular event, with a high immediate mortality and substantial morbidity in individuals surviving the acute period.

Acute Aortic Dissection

Lancet, The, 2008
We summarise advances in the epidemiology, presentation, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of acute aortic dissection. Improved understanding of this problem has been assisted not only by establishment of an international registry but also by progress in molecular biology and genetics of connective-tissue diseases.

Acute aortic dissection

BMJ, 2011
Acute aortic dissection is caused by an aortic intimal tear with propagation of a false channel in the media. Depending on the site and extent of the tear, it may cause chest, back, or abdominal pain, or collapse caused by rupture or malperfusion (transient or persistent ischaemia of any organ as a result of arterial branch obstruction).

Acute Aortic Dissection

Critical Care Clinics, 2007
Acute aortic dissection is an uncommon but potentially catastrophic illness with high mortality. Significant advances in the understanding, diagnosis, and management have been made since the first reported case of aortic dissection 3 centuries ago. This comprehensive review discusses the pathophysiology, classification, clinical manifestations, early ...

Acute Aortic Dissection

Southern Medical Journal, 1985
Disease processes affecting the aorta are gaining increasing attention as average longevity of the population in this country increases and as awareness of conditions such as hypertension and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease improves. Aortic dissection is commonly seen as a manifestation of these processes in the aging population and is the most ...

Acute Aortic Dissection: an Update

Current Emergency and Hospital Medicine Reports, 2020
This review summarizes the pathophysiology of acute aortic dissection with recent findings and current strategies for diagnosis and treatment. The addition of clinical and laboratorial findings to radiologic classifications emerges as an approach to better stratify and treat patients with aortic dissection.

Acute Aortic Dissection

Cardiology Clinics, 1984
Acute aortic dissection is the most lethal complication affecting the aorta. The use of two-dimensional echocardiography and computed tomography has greatly expanded the physician's ability to establish this diagnosis through noninvasive techniques. Surgery is the definitive treatment for type I and II dissection, whereas medical management with drugs ...

Subtypes of Acute Aortic Dissection

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 1994
The technique of open distal anastomosis using deep hypothermic circulatory arrest was used in 69 cases of acute type A aortic dissection. These cases were subcategorized by site of intimal tear, which was found in the ascending aorta in 41 patients (60%), in the arch in 22 patients (32%), and in the descending aorta in 5 patients (7%).
