Dose effects of oxaliplatin on persistent and transient Na+ conductances and the development of neurotoxicity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BACKGROUND: Oxaliplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapy utilised in the treatment of colorectal cancer, produces two forms of neurotoxicity--acute sensorimotor neuropathic symptoms and a dose-limiting chronic sensory neuropathy.

A Case of Acute Motor and Sensory Axonal Neuropathy Following Hepatitis A Infection

open access: yesJournal of Korean Medical Science, 2013
Acute motor and sensory axonal neuropathy (AMSAN) are recently described subtypes of Guillain-Barre syndrome characterized by acute onset of distal weakness, loss of deep tendon reflexes, and sensory symptoms. A 21-yr-old male was transferred to our hospital due to respiration difficulties and progressive weakness.

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) complicated by rhabdomyolysis (RML): Case reports of 2 children and literature review

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2022
We initially described two children who developed Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) complicated by rhabdomyolysis (RML), and reviewed five adult patients from the literature.

Long-term Disability and Poor Outcome Predictors of Guillain-Barre Syndrome in Children: A Systematic Review [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pediatrics Review, 2023
Background: Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is an immune-mediated polyneuropathy and a common cause of acute ascending weakness in children.  Objectives: This study aims to report long-term disability and poor outcome predictors of GBS in children. Medline

Advancing Human Skin Equivalents: The Crucial Role of Neurovascular Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review discusses the importance of integrating vascular and peripheral nerve systems into human skin equivalents (HSEs) to better recapitulate native skin physiology. Recent advances in vascularized, innervated, and neurovascularized HSEs are highlighted, together with emerging bioengineering strategies, current challenges, and future ...

A Rare Case of Acute Transverse Myelitis (ATM) and Acute Motor and Sensory Axonal Neuropathy (AMSAN) Overlap [PDF]

open access: yesCureus, 2019
Concomitant acute transverse myelitis (ATM) and Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is described as GBS and ATM overlap. Its presentation varies greatly, thus making the diagnosis difficult. Overlap syndrome is more commonly associated with acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) subtype of GBS.

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Acute myeloneuropathy: An uncommon presentation of Sjögren′s syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology, 2013
Sjögren′s syndrome is associated with central and peripheral nervous system involvement. The peripheral neuropathy is usually a sensory predominant neuropathy or a cranial neuropathy.

Anti-Ganglioside Antibody-Negative Miller Fisher and AMSAN Variant Guillain-Barré Overlap Syndrome

open access: yesCase Reports in Neurology, 2020
A case of Miller Fisher and acute motor sensory axonal neuropathy (AMSAN) variant Guillain-Barré (MFS/AMSAN-GBS) overlap syndrome is presented. The neurological presentation of the overlap syndrome was preceded by an upper respiratory tract infection ...

Ultrasound‐Activated Piezoelectric Neuroimmune Hydrogel Orchestrates Neurogenesis‐Macrophage Crosstalk in Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, we design an ultrasound‐activated piezoelectric hydrogel platform (AOEF@AP5+US) that reprograms neurogenesis‐macrophage crosstalk as an integrated strategy to overcome the intertwined barriers of chronic inflammation, peripheral neuropathy, and impaired regeneration in diabetic wounds.
