Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure: Steps Towards Consensus

open access: yesDiagnostics
Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a clinical syndrome characterized by organ failure and high short-term mortality. Since its first definition in 2013, many international organizations have defined this syndrome and, till now, there has been no ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Galectin-9 as a new biomarker of acute-on-chronic liver failure

open access: yesScientific Reports
Galectin-9 (Gal-9) expression in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure and its correlation with prognosis remain unclear. This study investigated the relationship between liver failure prognosis and Gal-9 expression analysis in patients with acute-

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Usefulness of regional right ventricular and right atrial strain for prediction of early and late right ventricular failure following a left ventricular assist device implant: A machine learning approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Identifying candidates for left ventricular assist device surgery at risk of right ventricular failure remains difficult. The aim was to identify the most accurate predictors of right ventricular failure among clinical, biological, and ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Incidence and Short‐Term Prognosis of Acute‐On‐Chronic Liver Failure Defined by Japanese Criteria: A Single‐Center Retrospective Cohort Study From Urban Japan

open access: yesJGH Open
Background and Aim Acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (ACLF) carries high short‐term mortality, but real‐world evidence under the Japanese ACLF criteria remains limited.

Comparative role of tenofovir versus entecavir for treating patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute on chronic liver failure

open access: yesJournal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, 2021
Introduction: The aim of the study was to compare the safety and efficacy of tenofovir versus entecavir for treatment of naive acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) due to hepatitis B virus (HBV) (ACLF-B).
