The role of honey in the management of wounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The widespread development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria has generated an increasing interest in the use of alternate therapies for the treatment of infected wounds.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Transforming growth factor β plays an important role in enhancing wound healing by topical application of Povidone-iodine

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Povidone-iodine (PVI) is principally used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been found that 0.5% PVI can attenuate congestion, edema and pain induced by pressure sores. Thus this study aimed to assess the effects of 0.5% PVI on acute skin wounds.

Pain sensitivity: an unnatural history from 1800 to 1965 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Who was truly capable of experiencing pain? In this article, I explore ideas about the distribution of bodily sensitivity in patients from the early nineteenth century to 1965 in Anglo-American societies.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Cold atmospheric plasma and skin wound healing: influence on microbial diversity and composition

open access: yesBMC Microbiology
Background Skin wound healing presents a complex challenge, often compounded by the risk of infection. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) emerged as a novel therapeutic for reducing bacterial load and expediting wound healing. However, its effect on the wound

Advancing chronic and acute wound healing with cold atmospheric plasma: cellular and molecular mechanisms, benefits, risks, and future directions

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
Chronic and acute wounds represent significant challenges in healthcare, often leading to prolonged recovery times and increased complications. While chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers, persist due to underlying conditions

Pressure ulcers: understanding the challenges of promoting quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Pressure ulcers affect quality of life and general wellbeing, and create significant difficulties for patients, their carers and families. Pressure ulcers are associated with morbidity and mortality, and prove costly for healthcare providers.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
