Surgical Clinics of North America, 1997
The causes and treatment of acute failure of the abdominal incision are reviewed, along with a summary of studies on fascial healing. Emphasis is placed on taking large bites of tissue during closure to prevent dehiscence. Patient-related risk factors are viewed as less important in the causation of wound failure.

Pathophysiology of acute wound healing
Clinics in Dermatology, 2007Wound healing is a complex process that can be divided into at least 3 continuous and overlapping processes: an inflammatory reaction, a proliferative process leading to tissue restoration, and, eventually, tissue remodeling. Wound healing processes are strictly regulated by multiple growth factors and cytokines released at the wound site. Although the

Healing is the reparative process by the skin to protect itself and to generate new cutaneous structures. Medical and surgical intervention in wounds can greatly affect the resultant scar and the time of healing.

Wound healing in acutely injured fascia
Wound Repair and Regeneration, 2014AbstractFascial healing following acute injury, such as that occurring during surgical procedures, is defined functionally. For example, failure of fascial healing following celiotomy is only identified when incisional hernias are diagnosed. Such hernias incur billions of dollars per year in medical costs.
