Optimizing feather hydrolysate via machine learning for microbial recycling of waste concrete fines

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The concrete industry faces significant challenges from CO2 emissions and the disposal of waste concrete fines (WCF). Microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) can bind WCF into bioconcrete, but the high cost of commercial culture media hinders its application.

A Deep Learning Pipeline for Cell Segmentation and Viability Quantification in 3D Constructs From Fluorescence Microscopy Images

open access: yesMicroscopy Research and Technique, EarlyView.
3D bioprinting requires advanced methods for cell localization and viability assessment. We developed a hybrid and automated pipeline based on the U2‐Net architecture for the analysis of fluorescence microscopy images enabling cell segmentation and viability assessment.

Comparison of machine learning methods for prediction of venous thromboembolism among hospitalized adults

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hospital‐acquired venous thromboembolism (HA‐VTE) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among hospitalized adults. Accurate prediction of HA‐VTE is crucial for timely intervention and prevention. While logistic regression is widely used for the development of clinical prediction models, there is ongoing interest in the ...

Analysis of plant science higher education reveals mixed provision which falls short of delivering national priorities

open access: yesJSFA reports, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 78-90, March 2025.
Abstract Background Many reports from the UK government and other organisations highlight a need for a plant aware workforce, and some enumerate specific areas of plant science where there is a skills shortage. We have undertaken a systematic analysis of the content of degree programmes that advertise as teaching plant biology to determine if the UK ...

Review of phytochemical and antioxidant properties of Ethiopian medicinal plants

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Ethiopia possesses a rich ethnobotanical heritage and diverse medicinal flora that play an important role in traditional healthcare. Many Ethiopian medicinal plants contain bioactive phytochemicals with potential antioxidant properties. This capital of indigenous knowledge has contributed to the documentation of different medicinal plants that

Calibration‐Free Single‐Frame Super‐Resolution Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A deep learning framework reconstructs super‐resolved fluorescence images from a single dense camera frame, without any prior calibration or knowledge of the microscope. Trained solely on synthetic data, it generalizes across imaging setups and conditions.
