The Endothelial CXCR Family in Vascular Health and Disease

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Endothelial cells (ECs) form the dynamic interface between blood and tissue, serving as key regulators of vascular homeostasis, inflammation, and repair. Among the molecular systems governing endothelial behavior, the C‐X‐C motif chemokine receptor (CXCR) family—originally characterized in immunology for its roles in leukocyte trafficking and ...

The emerging role of ADAM metalloproteinases in immunity

open access: yes, 2018
Proteolysis is an irreversible physiological process that can result in the termination or activation of protein function. Many transmembrane proteins that are involved in the cellular communication between immune cells and structural cells-for example ...

Optimizing feather hydrolysate via machine learning for microbial recycling of waste concrete fines

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The concrete industry faces significant challenges from CO2 emissions and the disposal of waste concrete fines (WCF). Microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) can bind WCF into bioconcrete, but the high cost of commercial culture media hinders its application.

Identification and Structural Characterisation of Novel Outer Membrane Proteins in the genus Borrelia

open access: yes
Although considered Gram-negative the outer membrane (OM) of Borrelia is unique, consisting of a variety of glycolipids, a significant number of surface exposed lipoproteins and a smaller number of integral membrane-spanning β-barrels.

Comparison of machine learning methods for prediction of venous thromboembolism among hospitalized adults

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hospital‐acquired venous thromboembolism (HA‐VTE) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among hospitalized adults. Accurate prediction of HA‐VTE is crucial for timely intervention and prevention. While logistic regression is widely used for the development of clinical prediction models, there is ongoing interest in the ...

Interaction Between Nitrogen Forms, Phosphorus Forms, and Mineral Phases Drives Phosphorus Limitation and Uptake by Ryegrass in a Model System

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen addition shifts plant nutrition from nitrogen to phosphorus (P) limitation. Nitrate‐based nitrogen enhances P acquisition more effectively than ammonium through increased phosphatase activity, independently of pH changes. Organic P forms induce stronger P limitation than inorganic P.

Analysis of plant science higher education reveals mixed provision which falls short of delivering national priorities

open access: yesJSFA reports, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 78-90, March 2025.
Abstract Background Many reports from the UK government and other organisations highlight a need for a plant aware workforce, and some enumerate specific areas of plant science where there is a skills shortage. We have undertaken a systematic analysis of the content of degree programmes that advertise as teaching plant biology to determine if the UK ...
