Polymeric ADAM Protein Mimics Interrogate Mammalian Sperm–Egg Binding [PDF]

open access: yesChemBioChem, 2009
AbstractROMPing with the ADAMs family: The sperm‐surface display of egg adhesion proteins was investigated using multivalent polymer sperm mimics. Ruthenium‐catalyzed ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) was used to synthesize heterovalent polymers.magnified imageThe sperm proteins ADAM2 and ADAM3, members of the ADAM family of proteins, have ...

Extracellular proteolysis in structural and functional plasticity of mossy fiber synapses in hippocampus

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2015
Brain is continuously altered in response to experience and environmental changes. One of the underlying mechanisms is synaptic plasticity, which is manifested by modification of synapse structure and function.

Low density lipoprotein from patients with Type 2 diabetes increases expression of monocyte matrix metalloproteinase and ADAM metalloproteinase genes

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2007
Aims Type 2 diabetes is characterised by increased plasma concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines [such as tumour necrosis factor – alpha; TNF-α] and soluble forms of adhesion molecules involved in leukocyte – endothelial interactions.

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

Invisible but not inaccessible—Revealing transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins with solution NMR and complementary methods

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins may be ‘invisible’ to direct detection yet remain accessible to solution NMR through equilibrium‐exchange measurements and pressure‐jump experiments. Complementary methods report on mass, stoichiometry, selected distance distributions, morphology, and internal packing.

Adam Smith and Roman Servitudes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This essay is a preprint of an article that appeared at: Tijdschrift voor Rechstsgeschiedenis, 72 (2004), 327–57.This essay discusses Adam Smith historical jurisprudence and his use of Roman law materials in his Lectures on Jurisprudence. It argues that

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Differential Spatio-Temporal Regulation of MMPs in the 5xFAD Mouse Model of Alzheimer’s disease: Evidence for aPro-Amyloidogenic Role of MT1-MMP

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2014
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are pleiotropic endopeptidases involved in a variety of neurodegenerative/neuroinflammatory processes through their interactions with a large number of substrates.

Identification of ADAM 31: A Protein Expressed in Leydig Cells and Specialized Epithelia* [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology, 2000
A family of proteins containing a disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain (ADAMs) has been identified recently. Here, we report the identification of a novel member of the ADAM protein family from mouse. This protein is designated ADAM 31. The complementary DNA sequence of ADAM 31 predicts a transmembrane protein with metalloproteinase, disintegrin ...
