Decision and Adaptation

Research on Aging, 1983
Review of the literature shows that while women's adaptation to retirement has been closely studied, little is known of the female retirement decision. No gender differences in adaptation have been demonstrated. Hampered by poor data sets and design, and responsive to the prejudicial assumption that women had low work commitment, early adaptation ...

Online Adaptive Decision Trees

Neural Computation, 2004
Decision trees and neural networks are widely used tools for pattern classification. Decision trees provide highly localized representation, whereas neural networks provide a distributed but compact representation of the decision space. Decision trees cannot be induced in the online mode, and they are not adaptive to changing environment, whereas ...

Adaptive Decision Making and Aging

2015
The notion of ecological rationality sees successful decision making as the product of the fit between particular strategies and the appropriate decision tasks. But how does aging affect the ability to adapt and execute specific strategies? We provide a review of research on aging and adaptive strategy use in different domains, including memory and ...

Adaptive Bayesian decision fusion

Proceedings of the 36th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002
Design of parallel binary decision fusion systems is often performed under the assumption that the decision integrator (the data fusion center, DFC) possesses perfect knowledge of the local-detector (LD) statistics. In most studies, other statistical parameters are also assumed to be known, namely the a priori probabilities of the hypotheses, and the ...

Decision Tools for Adaptive Designs

2016
Adaptive designs incorporate interim analyses where the interim data are used to decide whether to terminate or to continue the trial, and, if the trial is continued, how to design the remainder of the trial. This raises the important question of how to make the decisions on potential design modifications.

Decision directed adaptive demodulation

1985 24th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1985
A new technique is proposed for demodulation of phase modulated signals. The new technique is called Decision Directed Adaptive Demodulation (DDAD) which is an adaptive match filtering algorithm that uses an estimate of the present symbol in the adaptation algorithm.

The Adaptive Decision Maker

1993
The Adaptive Decision Maker argues that people use a variety of strategies to make judgments and choices. The authors introduce a model that shows how decision makers balance effort and accuracy considerations and predicts which strategy a person will use in a given situation.
