Bayesian Adaptive Reconstruction of Profile Optima and Optimizers [PDF]
Given a function depending both on decision parameters and nuisance variables, we consider the issue of estimating and quantifying uncertainty on profile optima and/or optimal points as functions of the nuisance variables. The proposed methods are based on interpolations of the objective function constructed from a finite set of evaluations.

The analytical hydrodynamic calculations of the radial bearing with the adapted profile of its contact surface are made. Some optimal intervals of the nondimensional parameters typical for the compressible micropolar lubricants, as well as the parameter ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Crossbreeding locally adapted hair sheep to improve productivity and meat quality
: The use of lambs from crossing of local with specialized sheep breeds for meat production may lead to higher meat deposition and a smaller fat amount in the carcass, with a more adequate nutritional profile for human consumption.

Drive‐by damage detection in bridges using the apparent profile
The concept of using sensors on a passing vehicle, rather than on the bridge, is known as 'Drive‐by' damage detection. The newly developed traffic speed deflectometer (TSD) is a device used for pavement deflection measurements and is investigated here in

Let’s dance the news! How the news media are adapting to the logic of TikTok
The influence of TikTok has reached the news media, which has adapted to the logic of the platform, in a context marked by the incidental consumption of news, virality and the intermediation of technology in access to information.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
