Adaptive optics at the WHT

open access: yesNew Astronomy Reviews, 2001
The WHT is unusually well-placed for exploitation of adaptive-optics (AO) technology. The site seeing is excellent (median 0.7 arcsec), dome seeing is negligible, and preliminary studies indicate that most of the atmospheric seeing originates in a well-defined layer at low altitude, which bodes well for future laser-guide-star AO. INTRACAVITY ADAPTIVE OPTICS

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique Colloques, 1980
A major consideration in most laser resonator designs for high power is to obtain the maximum far field irradiance on a target. Various design approaches have emerged in recent years to optimize the far-field irradiance by utilizing different resonator concepts for the purpose of obtaining the best mode control and near field beam quality.

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

Correlated Photon Lidar Based on Time-Division Multiplexing

open access: yesPhotonics
Single-photon lidar (SPL) exhibits high sensitivity, making it particularly suitable for detecting weak echoes over long distances. However, its susceptibility to background noise necessitates the implementation of advanced filtering techniques and ...

Adaptive Optics Simulations for Siding Spring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Using an observational derived model optical turbulence profile (model-OTP) we have investigated the performance of Adaptive Optics (AO) at Siding Spring Observatory (SSO), Australia. The simulations cover the performance for AO techniques of single conjugate adaptive optics (SCAO), multi-conjugate adaptive optics (MCAO) and ground-layer adaptive ...

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Adaptive shaping for generation of optical arbitrary waveform [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
A new adaptive shaping method that can generate arbitrary optical waveforms with folded-type or fan-type birefringent variable shapers is proposed in this paper. Automatic arbitrary laser temporal shaping of picosecond and femtosecond lasers in shapers with material dispersion, nonidentical birefringent retarders are also studied and results are ...

METTL3 knockout accelerates hepatocarcinogenesis via inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress response

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Liver‐specific knockout of N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) methyltransferase METTL3 significantly accelerated hepatic tumor initiation under various oncogenic challenges, contrary to the previously reported oncogenic role of METTL3 in liver cancer cell lines or xenograft models. Mechanistically, METTL3 deficiency reduced m6A deposition on Manf transcripts and

Sub-Millisecond Phase Retrieval for Phase-Diversity Wavefront Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2020
We propose a convolutional neural network (CNN) based method, namely phase diversity convolutional neural network (PD-CNN) for the speed acceleration of phase-diversity wavefront sensing.
