Dual-wavelength adaptive optical systems
Applied Optics, 1983A method for decomposition of phase difference error between measurements of atmospheric turbulence-induced phase distortion at two different wavelengths is described. Calculations are made of the phase difference errors in the first five Zernike radial modes for both ground-to-ground and ground-to-space transmission of laser radiation.

Dynamics of adaptive optical systems
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2010Dynamic (time) characteristics of adaptive systems are analyzed. A common adaptive system with a finite frequency band (or a finite response time) is described as a dynamic constant time-delay system, where time delay is to be much shorter than the time of coherence radius transfer through an optical beam by a mean wind speed. The questions of coherent

Adaptive Optical Technologies for Optical Transmission Systems
Proceedings of the 18th Panhellenic Conference on Informatics, 2014The emerging popularity of bandwidth-starving applications (such as internet video, cloud storage etc) has lead to an exponential growth of the amount of data to be transmitted over long distances using optical fibre. Fibre transmission impairments, like chromatic dispersion (CD) remain a limiting factor on optical transmission and hence their ...

Self-adaptive optical systems for long-distance flying optics
Applied Optics, 2006The focusing characteristics of long-distance flying optics were studied systemically for TEM(mn) Gaussian beams. The results show that the ABCD law of parameter q can be extended to Gaussian modes of any order when waist radius w in the imaginary part of parameter q is replaced by Rayleigh range Z(R) of a certain resonator in the equation.

The GMT adaptive optics system
SPIE Proceedings, 2010The design of the adaptive optics (AO) system for the GMT is currently being developed. The baseline system is planned around a segmented adaptive secondary mirror (ASM), with elements similar in size to current ASM's for 8 m telescopes. A facility wavefront sensing system is planned to provide AO correction at several science instrument ports.

Adaptive optical equalization for optical communication systems
2023Optical fiber communication systems have the advantages of long-distance transmission and large information capacity over traditional communication systems using copper cables. The signal processing can be performed in the electronic domain and/or the optical domain.

A Modular Adaptive Optics System
Adaptive Optics, 1996A modular, commercially available adaptive optics system is described. Appropriate for small laboratories exploring new applications of adaptive optics, the system combines advances in the construction of high speed computers and deformable mirrors to offer closed loop bandwidths of up to 50 Hz with 37 actuators of control.

Experimental adaptive optics system
Optical Engineering, 1994Experimental results of a new approach to the problem of sharpness function maximization in adaptive optics are presented. The main difference from the ordinary method is in the forming of signals, proportional to the components of the sharpness function gradient, in an optical processor.

Segmented mirror adaptive optics system
Annual Meeting Optical Society of America, 1987An adaptive optics system that utilizes a segmented mirror as the active component is described and discussed. The mirror is a 10-in. diam spherical mirror composed of 13 independently controllable segments of equal area. The system linearity and control laws are discussed assuming a modal wavefront expansion.

ERIS adaptive optics system design
SPIE Proceedings, 2012The Enhanced Resolution Imager and Spectrograph (ERIS) is the next-generation instrument planned for the Very Large Telescope (VLT) and the Adaptive Optics facility (AOF). It is an AO assisted instrument that will make use of the Deformable Secondary Mirror and the new Laser Guide Star Facility (4LGSF), and it is planned for the Cassegrain focus of ...
