Mechanisms of inhibition of adenine phosphoribosyltransferase by adenine nucleosides and nucleotides

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1970
Kinetic studies of the inhibition of adenine phosphoribosyltransferase by adenine 6′-deoxyallofuranoside and 2′-deoxyadenylate indicate that both compounds bind to free enzyme and to the enzyme–phosphoribosylpyrophosphate complex, although they bind with different relative affinities to each enzyme form. The sites to which these inhibitors bind appear

Relevance of πσ* states in the photoinduced processes of adenine, adenine dimer, and adenine–water complexes

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2005
Ab initio calculations and time-resolved photoionization spectroscopy were carried out to characterize the role of the lowest two πσ* excited states for the photoinduced processes in the adenine monomer, adenine dimer, and adenine–water clusters. The calculations show—with respect to the monomer—a stabilization of 0.11–0.14 eV for the πσ* states in ...

Adenine Consumption in Stored Citrate-Phosphate- Dextrose-Adenine Blood

Vox Sanguinis, 1980
Abstract. Plasma adenine concentration was measured in five units of citrate‐phosphate‐dextrose‐adenine (0.25 mmol/1 adenine) whole blood during storage at +4°C. The adenine levels decreased to 50% in 9–10 days and to approximately 15% in 3 weeks. In spite of this rapid consumption of adenine, the adenosine triphosphate levels were well maintained ...

Was Adenine the First Purine?

Science, 1989
Oligomerization of HCN (1 molar) in the presence of added formaldehyde (0.5 molar) produced an order of magnitude more 8-hydroxymethyladenine than adenine or any other biologically significant purine. This result suggests that on the prebiotic Earth, nucleoside analogs may have been synthesized directly in more complex mixtures of HCN with other ...

The Radiation Decomposition of Adenine

Radiation Research, 1963
The radiolysis of 0.1% solutions of adenine in water leads to the formation of two major products: 4,6-diamino-5formamidopyrimidine and 8- hydroxyadenine. The two compounds account for about 80% of the decomposed adenine. Minor products are hypoxanthine and 4-amino-5formamido-6- hydroxypyrimidine.

On the interaction of hypoxanthine with adenine

Experientia, 1967

Adenine nucleotides in blood

Biochemical Medicine, 1970
Abstract A new, dynamic cycling procedure for total adenine nucleotides (ATP + ADP + AMP) is described. This procedure permits the measurement of adenine nucleotides in TCA extracts of fresh or frozen blood samples without requiring the removal of TCA from extract.

On the mutagenic action of adenine

Leukemia Research, 2007
The deamination of cytosine and adenine is mutagenic; the deamination of guanine is not. The deamination of cytosine leads to G=C-->A=T point mutation and to G-->A and C-->T transition in the DNA molecule; the deamination of adenine leads to the opposite A-->G and T-->C transition.
