Identification of Large Adenovirus Infection Outbreak at University by Multipathogen Testing, South Carolina, USA, 2022

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases
Using multipathogen PCR testing, we identified 195 students with adenovirus type 4 infections on a university campus in South Carolina, USA, during January–May 2022. We co-detected other respiratory viruses in 43 (22%) students.

IRF‐1 modulates hepatic ferroptosis and aggravates liver ischemia/reperfusion injury via DYRK1α

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
IRF‐1 modulates hepatic ferroptosis and aggravates liver ischemia/reperfusion injury via DYRK1α. Abstract Background The purpose is to define the contribution of the interferon regulatory factor‐1–dual‐specificity tyrosine phosphorylation‐regulated kinase 1α (IRF‐1–DYRK1α) axis to hepatocellular ferroptosis during liver ischemia/reperfusion injury ...

Recent advances in the construction of humanized animal models and applications in translational medicine

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Substantial advances have been achieved in the development of humanized mouse models, which have proven highly valuable in evaluating cancer immunotherapies and elucidating the mechanisms of infectious diseases. There is now a growing shift in research toward larger animal models—such as pigs—that offer greater physiological similarity to humans ...

Epidemic Keratoconjunctivitis-Causing Adenoviruses Induce MUC16 Ectodomain Release To Infect Ocular Surface Epithelial Cells

open access: yesmSphere, 2016
Human adenoviruses (HAdV), species D in particular (HAdV-D), are frequently associated with epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC). Although the infection originates at the ocular surface epithelium, the mechanisms by which HAdV-Ds bypass the membrane ...

The potential of a novel Adenovirus vector for vaccination [PDF]

open access: yes
Adenoviruses (Ads) have many attractive characteristics for use as agents of genebased vaccines and therapies. The most frequently used Ad vectors in preclinical research are based on Ad5.

The Nuclear Receptor Testicular Receptor 4 Orchestrates Cytoskeletal Organization in a G Protein Subunit Alpha 12/Rho‐Associated Protein Kinase–Dependent Manner to Promote Myofibroblast Differentiation and Tissue Fibrosis in Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Members of the superfamily of nuclear receptors have been implicated in inflammatory processes and pathologic tissue remodeling and have emerged as attractive targets for pharmaceutical intervention. However, the role of testicular receptor 4 (TR4; or Nr2c2) in fibroblast activation and rheumatologic diseases has not yet been investigated ...

Efficacy, safety and cost‐effectiveness of CAR‐T therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
CAR T‐cells demonstrate high efficacy in blood cancers, including ALL, MM and DLBCL. Innovations target solid tumours despite challenges such as antigen escape. Combination therapies enhance the delivery and infiltration of CAR T cells. Toxicity, cost and resistance remain major barriers to clinical use.

Mouse Adenovirus Type 1 Early Region 1A Effects on the Blood-Brain Barrier

open access: yesmSphere, 2016
Mouse adenovirus type 1 (MAV-1) infects endothelial cells and disrupts the blood-brain barrier (BBB), causing encephalitis in inbred and outbred mice. Using a virus mutant that does not produce the early region 1A protein E1A, we investigated whether the
