Risk assessment of food additives including dietary exposure. [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA J
Abstract Lately, the entire society's focus has turned towards consuming more natural food products and the production of chemicals obtained utilising green technologies. The use of chemicals as food additives is a concern for consumers. For this reason, the search for natural and more sustainable additives is a key step to control food risks while ...

Clarifying the association between adverse childhood experiences and postdeployment posttraumatic stress disorder symptom severity: A meta‐analysis and large‐sample investigation

open access: yesJournal of Traumatic Stress, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 700-711, August 2023., 2023
Abstract We report on two studies designed to shed light on the association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom severity in military personnel. In particular, we examined the evidence for both additive and multiplicative associations between ACEs and combat exposure in predicting PTSD symptom ...

Estimation of additive genetic variance when there are gene–environment correlations: Pitfalls, solutions and unexplored questions

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 5, Page 1245-1258, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Estimating the genetic variation underpinning a trait is crucial to understanding and predicting its evolution. A key statistical tool to estimate this variation is the animal model. Typically, the environment is modelled as an external variable independent of the organism, affecting the focal phenotypic trait via phenotypic plasticity.

Absence of myofibrillar myopathy in Quarter Horses with a histopathological diagnosis of type 2 polysaccharide storage myopathy and lack of association with commercial genetic tests

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 55, Issue 2, Page 230-238, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Genetic tests for variants in MYOT (P2; rs1138656462), FLNC (P3a; rs1139799323 or P3b; rs1142918816) and MYOZ3 (P4; rs1142544043) genes are offered commercially to diagnose myofibrillar myopathy (MFM) and type 2 polysaccharide storage myopathy (PSSM2) in Quarter Horses (QH).

Emerging stability of forest productivity by mixing two species buffers temperature destabilizing effect

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 11, Page 2730-2741, November 2022., 2022
This study highlights the emergent properties associated with mixing two‐species, which result in resource efficient and temporally stable production systems. We reveal the negative impact of mean temperature on temporal stability of forest productivity and how the stabilizing effect of mixing two species can counterbalance this impact.
