On the chain of commuting operators on Banach spaces

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract An operator T$T$ on a Banach space is said to be of chain N$N$ if there exist non‐scalar operators S1,⋯,SN−1$S_1,\dots,S_{N-1}$ and a non‐zero compact operator K$K$ such that T↔S1↔S2↔⋯↔SN−1↔K,$$\begin{equation*} T \leftrightarrow S_1 \leftrightarrow S_2 \leftrightarrow \dots \leftrightarrow S_{N-1} \leftrightarrow K, \end{equation*}$$where A↔B$

When weak convergence in von Neumann algebras implies almost uniform convergence?

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract We show that weak sequential convergence in a semifinite von Neumann algebra M$\mathcal {M}$ equipped with a faithful normal semifinite trace τ$\tau$ implies almost uniform convergence if and only if M$\mathcal {M}$ is of type Ifin$\mathrm{I}_{\rm fin}$ with τ(1)<∞;$\tau (\mathbf {1})<\infty;$ and that weak sequential convergence in a finite ...

Localization sequences for logarithmic topological cyclic homology

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract We introduce the notion of an Ek$\mathbb {E}_k$‐ring with prelogarithmic structure, define logarithmic topological Hochschild homology and logarithmic topological cyclic homology in this context, and establish localization sequences for these theories. Our approach is based on Thom R$R$‐algebras.

Higher representation stability for ordered configuration spaces

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Using factorization homology with coefficients in twisted commutative algebras (TCAs), we prove two flavors of higher representation stability for the cohomology of (generalized) configuration spaces of a scheme/topological space X$X$. First, we provide an iterative procedure to study higher representation stability using actions coming from ...

A QUBO Formulation for Multi‐Material Topology Optimization With Quantum Annealing

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 16, 30 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Multi‐material topology optimization (MMTO) seeks the optimal distribution of multiple materials within a given design domain to maximize structural performance. However, due to the high complexity of the solution space, MMTO problems are often trapped in local optima. To address this issue, a quantum annealing‐based MMTO framework is proposed.

Significance of Size‐Dependent Hygroscopicity Parameterization for Aerosol‐Cloud Interactions

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Aerosol‐cloud interactions (aerosol indirect effects) are the most significant source of uncertainties in the effective radiative forcing (ERF) due to aerosols which can act as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). Uncertainties in the indirect effect can result from systematic uncertainties in aerosol water uptake (hygroscopicity).

Learning by the F-adjoint

open access: yesCoRR
A recent paper by Boughammoura (2023) describes the back-propagation algorithm in terms of an alternative formulation called the F-adjoint method. In particular, by the F-adjoint algorithm the computation of the loss gradient, with respect to each weight within the network, is straightforward and can simply be done.
