A comparative study of analgesic effects of ketamine, fentanyl and saline added to hyperbaric bupivacaine for central neuraxial blockade in total knee replacement surgery: A prospective, randomised, double-blind and placebo-controlled study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Scientific Research, 2021
Background: Various adjuvants were combined with local anaesthetic agents, either intrathecally or epidurally, to prolong the duration of a denser neuraxial block and achieve adequate intraoperative conditions.

Mathematical modeling of glioma invasion and therapy approaches via kinetic theory of active particles [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
A multiscale model for glioma spread in brain tissue under the influence of vascularization and vascular endothelial growth factors is proposed. It accounts for the interplay between the different components of the neoplasm and the healthy tissue and it investigates and compares various therapy approaches.

Asymmetric participation of defenders and critics of vaccines to debates on French-speaking Twitter [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep 10, 6599 (2020). https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-020-62880-5, 2019
For more than a decade, doubt about vaccines has become an increasingly important global issue. Polarization of opinions on this matter, especially through social media, has been repeatedly observed, but details about the balance of forces are left unclear.

Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in early breast cancers is associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with early breast cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This study evaluated EMT and TIL shifts, with immunofluorescence and RNA sequencing, at diagnosis and in residual tumors as potential biomarkers associated with treatment response.

Neo-adjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy of gastric cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Oncology, 2007
Gastric cancer is still a major health problem and a leading cause of cancer mortality despite a worldwide decline in incidence. Surgery is the primary curative treatment of locoregional gastric cancer. In Western countries, however, at the time of resection, most patients are expected to have regional lymph node involvement with poor prognostic ...

Mechanisms of Particles in Sensitization, Effector Function and Therapy of Allergic Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Humans have always been in contact with natural airborne particles from many sources including biologic particulate matter (PM) which can exhibit allergenic properties.

Human and bovine respiratory syncytial virus vaccine research and development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Human (HRSV) and bovine (BRSV) respiratory syncytial viruses (RSV) are two closely related viruses, which are the most important causative agents of respiratory tract infections of young children and calves, respectively.

Making accurate and interpretable treatment decisions for binary outcomes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Optimal treatment rules can improve health outcomes on average by assigning a treatment associated with the most desirable outcome to each individual. Due to an unknown data generation mechanism, it is appealing to use flexible models to estimate these rules. However, such models often lead to complex and uninterpretable rules.

Thermal proteome profiling and proteome analysis using high‐definition mass spectrometry demonstrate modulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by next‐generation galeterone analog VNPP433‐3β in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Influence of Foliar Exposure, Adjuvants, and Rain-free Period on the Efficacy of Glyphosate for Torpedograss Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The proportion of torpedograss tissue exposed to glyphosate at application rates of 0.28, 0.56, 1.12, 2.24, and 4.48 kg/ha affected control as measured by regrowth. The effect of tissue exposure was more pronounced as application rate decreased.
