Controlled Resistant Hypertension Following A Successful Renal Artery Stenting: A Rare Case Report in A Developing Country

open access: yesMajalah Kardiologi Indonesia
Background Renal artery stenosis is among the etiologies of secondary hypertension in which the diagnosis and therapy are difficult. We report a case of a patient with uncontrollable hypertension with frequent episodes of malignant hypertension ...

Running‐based rehabilitation does not improve muscle function after volumetric muscle loss despite improving hindlimb weight‐bearing asymmetry in mice

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Volumetric muscle loss (VML) is a traumatic skeletal muscle injury characterized by chronic functional impairments in the affected muscle and adjacent uninjured bone. Rehabilitative strategies aimed at restoring limb function following VML, including voluntary running, have shown limited efficacy and in some cases have been detrimental.

Calcium‐activated chloride channels in pericytes and their role in regulating organ blood flow

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Pericytes are microvascular mural cells with diverse roles. Contractile pericytes directly regulate local perfusion, while non‐contractile pericytes coordinate upstream vascular contractility via propagating electrical signals.

Analysis of full and partial agonists binding to beta(2)-adrenergic receptor suggests a role of transmembrane helix V in agonist-specific conformational changes

open access: yes, 2009
The 2.4 angstrom crystal structure of the beta(2)-adrenergic receptor (beta(2)AR) in complex with the high-affinity inverse agonist (-)-carazolol provides a detailed structural framework for the analysis of ligand recognition by adrenergic receptors ...

Deciphering pro‐arrhythmogenic mechanisms of EPAC in human atrial cardiomyocytes

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend This study aimed to investigate the effect of exchange proteins directly activated by cAMP (EPAC) on the regulation of human atrial cardiomyocyte electrophysiology and their potential involvement in the onset of atrial fibrillation (AF).

Amyloid β alters vascular CaV1.2 channel spatiotemporal properties

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Amyloid‐β1‐42 (Aβ1‐42) triggers a male‐specific signalling cascade influencing CaV1.2 spatiotemporal properties in cerebral vascular smooth muscle. The signalling pathway involves NADPH oxidase (NOX)‐derived reactive oxygen species (ROS) activation of protein kinase C (PKC). Aβ1‐42 can also activate protein kinase A (PKA).

Cannabinoid exposure during pregnancy: Cardiorespiratory effects and offspring outcomes

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Prenatal exposure to cannabinoids has been investigated across human and animal studies to understand its impact on physiological development. Evidence suggests that early‐life cannabinoid exposure influence multiple developmental processes, extending beyond neurodevelopmental outcomes to potentially affect placental function ...

Potential health benefits of cold‐water immersion: the central role of PGC‐1α

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Cold‐water immersion (CWI) elicits autonomic, somato‐motoric (shivering thermogenesis), endocrine and metabolic, sensory transduction, and local biophysical effects that may converge on the transcriptional co‐activator PGC‐1α (centre).
