The two-sided continental subduction of the Adria microplate (Mediterranean)

open access: yesGeology
Abstract The recycling of the continental lithosphere back into the mantle significantly impacts the structure and dynamics of orogens, particularly in the central Mediterranean region. We demonstrate that variations in the rheological properties of the continental lithosphere, as revealed by high-resolution regional tomography ...

The Dinaric fault system: Large-scale structure, rates of slip, and Plio-Pleistocene evolution of the transpressive northeastern boundary of the Adria microplate [PDF]

open access: yesTectonics, 2016
AbstractLocated at the northeastern corner of the Adria microplate, the Alps‐Dinarides junction represents a key region for understanding how the Adria microplate interacts with stable Europe. However, little is known on how the present‐day deformation imposed by the rotation of the Adria microplate is absorbed across the Dinarides.

A study on off-fault aftershock pattern at N-Adria microplate

Journal of Seismology, 2018
The spatial features of the aftershock sequences triggered by three moderate magnitude events with coda-duration magnitudes 4.1, 5.1 and 5.6, which occurred in Northeastern Italy and Western Slovenia, were investigated. The fractal dimension and the orientations of the planar features fitting the hypocentral data have been inferred.

Long-term GNSS measurements from the northern Adria microplate reveal fault-induced fluid mobilization

Tectonophysics, 2016
Abstract Due to the development of denser permanent Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) networks over the last decade, the observation of transient deformations has significantly increased, mainly in high strain-rate zones. We analyzed the data from a group of permanent GNSS sites on the N-Adria microplate, where anomalous southward tilting and

Tracking Adria indentation beneath the Alps by detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology: Implications for the Oligocene–Miocene dynamics of the Adriatic microplate [PDF]

open access: yesGeology, 2016
The Adriatic microplate is a key player in the Western Mediterranean tectonic puzzle, but its Oligocene–Miocene dynamics are not yet fully understood. In fact, even though the timing and magnitude of Adriatic slab rollback and backarc extension in the Apennines have long been established, the timing of progressive Adria indentation beneath the Central ...

POST-LATE MIOCENE KINEMATICS OF THE ADRIA MICROPLATE: INFERENCES FROM GEOLOGICAL, GEOPHYSICAL AND GEODETIC DATA

2006
The space-time distribution of deformation in the central Mediterranean area suggests that the Adriatic domain (Adria) has moved coherently with Africa up until the late Miocene and that, subsequently, it decoupled from Africa (Nubia) and underwent a clockwise (CW) rotation with respect to Eurasia.

An outer ramp to basin plain transect: Interacting pelagic and calciturbidite deposition in the Eocene–Oligocene of the Tuscan Domain, Adria Microplate (Italy)

Sedimentary Geology, 2013
Abstract The interaction of ramps, basin plains and turbidite systems on the scale of tens of km has been rarely observed in fossil examples. Deep marine Eocene–Oligocene beds are exposed in the axial zone of the Chianti Mountains, Italy, and compose a regionally continue stratigraphic succession known as the Scaglia Toscana Formation.
