Cretaceous to Eocene sandstones from the Southeastern Alps and Outer Dinarides (Italy, Slovenia and Croatia) have been geochemically determined to detect their provenance. The first arenaceous strata of the Julian Basin are strongly chemically influenced by the disgregation of metamorphic and not-metamorphic rock types related to the ancient Vardar sea

Discussions about the Adria microplate offer differing views depending on the timescale and data considered. Neotectonic studies using earthquake mechanisms and GPS site velocities find Adria moving northeastward away from Italy, and bounded by an extensional boundary in the Apennines and convergent boundaries in the Dinarides and Venetian Alps ...

The red colored hematite-bearing granite from Mt. Požeška Gora and albite rhyolite that shows well-exposed phenomenon of columnar jointing from Rupnica locality have similar geochemical signature pointing to highly fractionated and high-temperature A-type of magma.

Beauty and complexity of metamorphism: case studies from the frontal part of the Adria microplate
RENDICONTI LINCEI, 2010We review a selection of case studies that highlight the fascination and complexity of metamorphic processes and mechanisms, as revealed in rocks from the crystalline basement of the frontal part of the Adria microplate. The examples from the Austroalpine metamorphic rocks south of the Tauern Window, and from the crystalline basement lying more ...

Euganean Hills are a magmatic district belonging to the Veneto Volcanic Province, whose magmatism developed during an extensional tectonic regime within the Alpine orogenesis in an intra-plate setting (the Adria microplate). Mafic and ultramafic cumulus enclaves occur within the Euganean trachytes.

Adria Microplate Structure and its Geodynamic History Since Early Mesozoic
Despite decades of extensive research, the precise lithospheric architecture and evolutionary trajectory of the Adria microplate, sandwiched between the converging Eurasian and African plates, remain subjects of intense geological debate. Although numerous paleotectonic models have been proposed over the last 100 years, the crustal evolution and ...Jaume Vergés +9 more

The frontal northern part of the continental Adriatic microplate is formed by a stack of Austroalpine nappes and by the Southalpine basement and cover units. Both basement portions are now side by side, separated by the Periadriatic (Insubric) fault system, but they became juxtaposed only during the Alpine orogeny.

The Central Mediterranean region is characterized by a wide diversity of geodynamic processes in the context of the long-term plate convergence between Africa and Eurasia during the entire Alpine Cycle. The Adria microplate, deformed amid the two major converging plates of Africa and Eurasia, results in a key piece for the reconstruction of this ...

Adria is the largest lithospheric fragment in the Central Mediterranean region that has played a key role in the development of the surrounding mountain chains (Dinarides, Suuthern Alps, Apennines). Earlier available paleomagnetic data were suitable to characterize the displacment of Adria in a very general way and were not sufficient to supply ...
