Ghrelin Regulates Hippocampal Neurogenesis in Adult Mice
The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of the peripheral administration of ghrelin, a peptide hormone secreted from the stomach, on cellular proliferation and differentiation of progenitor cells in the adult hippocampus. Double immunohistochemical staining revealed that Ki-67-positive hippocampal progenitor cells expressed ghrelin receptors.

Research shows that (R, S)‐ketamine and its stereoisomers effectively reduce symptoms of post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and treatment‐resistant depression, with (R)‐ketamine offering similar benefits with fewer side effects. Evidence highlights specific neural circuits and regions, including the dentate gyrus, prefrontal cortex, vCA3, dorsal ...

Age-dependent kinetics of dentate gyrus neurogenesis in the absence of cyclin D2
Background Adult neurogenesis continuously adds new neurons to the dentate gyrus and the olfactory bulb. It involves the proliferation and subsequent differentiation of neuronal progenitors, and is thus closely linked to the cell cycle machinery.

Androgens enhance adult hippocampal neurogenesis in males but not females in an age-dependent manner
Androgens (testosterone and dihydrotestosterone) increase adult hippocampal neurogenesis by increasing survival of new neurons in male rats and mice via an androgen receptor pathway, but it is not known whether androgens regulate neurogenesis in females ...

The Sooner, the Better: Neuroprotective Strategies in Fetuses With Congenital Heart Disease
ABSTRACT Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most frequent congenital malformation at birth and is associated with neurodevelopmental impairments. Alterations in cardiovascular physiology can lead to reduced cerebral blood perfusion and oxygenation, which negatively affects brain growth and maturation.

Background The molecular mechanism underlying progressive memory loss in Alzheimer’s disease is poorly understood. Neurogenesis in the adult hippocampus is a dynamic process that continuously changes the dentate gyrus and is important for hippocampal ...

Adult neurogenesis occurs in many species, from fish to mammals, with an apparent reduction in the number of both neurogenic zones and new neurons inserted into established circuits with increasing brain complexity.
