C.I. Reactive Black 5 degradation by advanced electrochemical oxidation process, AEOP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In the last decades, an increasing number of procedures to remove pollutants from wastewater have been reported. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are one of those technologies used for this purpose, namely, for textile wastewater treatment.

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...

Application of advanced oxidation processes for effective Reactive Red 241 degradation

open access: yesDesalination and Water Treatment
Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) were investigated for the Reactive Red 241 (RR 241) degradation in aqueous solutions. Nine different methods were tested: the Fenton process, Fenton combined with Sodium Percarbonate (Fenton-SP), Fenton with MgO₂ ...

A Graphite Cathode Modified by an Industrial Grade of Carbon Black for Assisting Electro-Fenton Technique: A Pesticide Wastewater Treatment [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
In this study, an Electro-Fenton (EF) reaction was employed to treat hazardous and resistant wastewater from a pesticide factory using graphite cathode modified with industrial carbon black (N330).

Unexpected transformation of dissolved phenols to toxic dicarbonyls by hydroxyl radicals and UV light. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Water treatment systems frequently use strong oxidants or UV light to degrade chemicals that pose human health risks. Unfortunately, these treatments can result in the unintended transformation of organic contaminants into toxic products.

Advanced oxidation processes: mechanistic aspects

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2008
The reactive intermediate in Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) is the •OH radical. It may be generated by various approaches such as the Fenton reaction (Fe2 + /H2O2), photo-Fenton reaction (Fe3 + /H2O2/hν), UV/H2O2, peroxone reaction (O3/H2O2), O3/UV, O3/activated carbon, O3/dissolved organic carbon (DOC) of water matrix, ionizing radiation, vacuum ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Graphene-based materials in catalytic wet peroxide oxidation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO),an advanced oxidation process, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is decomposed catalytically giving rise to hydroxyl radicals (HO•).These radicals, exhibiting high oxidizing potential, serve as effective and non ...

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.
