Dimethyl‐, Diethyl‐, and Propylene Carbonates: An Emerging Class of Green Solvents for Organic Synthesis

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in the use of organic carbonates, dimethyl carbonate (DMC), diethyl carbonate (DEC), and propylene carbonate (PC), as solvents in organic synthesis. Based on over seventy studies from the past 6 years, it shows their application in different organic reaction types, emphasizing their role in safer and more ...

Cystitis in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus): Clinical findings and treatment outcomes

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This retrospective study examined the incidence, diagnostic methods, bacterial isolates, treatments and outcomes associated with cystitis in guinea pigs presented at a single clinic between 2009 and 2022. Methods The clinic's medical records database was reviewed using easyvet software to identify cases eligible for inclusion in the

immunoHuMiX: A personalizable gut‐on‐chip model for unraveling human microbiome–immune interactions

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
The study introduces a personalized gut model that brings together human immune cells and intestinal cells to better mimic how the body interacts with microbes. This system successfully maintained both human cells and a 17‐strain probiotic community, showing consistent immune responses across different donors.

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Draf III in the Acute Phase of Pott's Puffy Tumor: A Scoping Review

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pott's puffy tumor (PPT) is a rare but serious sequela of frontal sinusitis characterized by osteomyelitis of the frontal bone with subperiosteal abscess formation. Surgical management has traditionally been delayed until resolution of the acute infection.

Discovering data‐driven microbial growth models with symbolic regression

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Connecting mathematical models with empirically measured microbial growth has remained challenging, as numerous competing models based on different theoretical approaches can fit observations. Therefore, we develop a method to automatically propose growth models from microbial data alone. We validate this approach using an available dataset of

Iron Physiology and Its Impact on Atopic Diseases: An EAACI Taskforce Report

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Iron is essential for oxygen transport, energy metabolism, and immune regulation. Yet iron deficiency is the most common micronutrient disorder across all age groups, affecting nearly one quarter of the global population. Iron deficiency triggers nutritional immunity, a host defense mechanism that withholds and redistributes iron, contributing
