A Survey of California Nurse Practitioners\u27 Health Practices and Counseling Habits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Morbidity and mortality due to obesity continues to rise in the United States despite well known Healthy People 2010 and American College of Sports Medicine guidelines on physical activity. In the U.S.

Sustainable Catalyst‐Free PLG Networks: Recyclability, Biodegradability, and Functional Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A catalyst‐additive free covalent adaptable network is developed from star‐shaped poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) cross‐linked with pyromellitic dianhydride, enabling internal carboxylic acid‐driven transesterification. The resulting biodegradable network exhibits mechanical robustness (Young's modulus ≈1.6 GPa), complete recyclability, rapid biodegradation

Does macronutrient consumption affect aerobic capacity? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Fitness in the United States is declining as the prevalence of obesity rises. It is known generally that exercise and diet both play a part in becoming fit, therefore veering away from being obese and/or overweight.

The interplay between aerobic metabolism and antipredator performance: vigilance is related to recovery rate after exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
When attacked by a predator, fish respond with a sudden fast-start motion away from the threat. Although this anaerobically-powered swimming necessitates a recovery phase which is fueled aerobically, little is known about links between escape performance

Aerobic Exercise and Endothelium

open access: yesManual Therapy, Posturology & Rehabilitation Journal, 2020
Background: A few years ago, it was believed that the endothelium was just a membrane separating blood from the outermost layers of blood vessels. However, it has now become recognized as a mediator of vasoconstricting and vasodilatory substances, regulating vessel tone through the information received.

A Microphysiological Interface of Skeletal Myobundles and Inflamed Adipose Tissue for Recapitulating Muscle Dysfunction in an Obese Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human cell‐based microphysiological system integrates engineered muscle tissues with an inflamed adipose–macrophage niche to model obese microenvironment‐induced muscle dysfunction. Muscle contraction is quantified by pillar deflection coupled with computational stiffness estimation. Secretome and transcriptomic profiling reveal inflammation‐mediated

Reduced pressure pain thresholds in response to exercise in chronic fatigue syndrome but not in chronic low back pain: an experimental study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Objective The aims of this study were to examine (i) base line pressure pain thresholds in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and those with chronic low back pain compared with healthy subjects, (ii) the change in mean pain threshold in response to ...
