Taxonomic considerations on Aerococcus urinae with proposal of subdivision into Aerococcus urinae, Aerococcus tenax sp. nov., Aerococcus mictus sp. nov., and Aerococcus loyolae sp. nov

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2023
Average nucleotide identity analysis, based on whole genome sequences of 115 strains previously identified as Aerococcus urinae , an emerging uropathogen, discriminates at least six unique genomic taxa.

Aerococcus urinae and Aerococcus sanguinicola, two frequently misidentified uropathogens

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2010
Species belonging to the Aerococcus genus are isolated from the urine and blood of elderly patients suffering from urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, the clinical significance, phenotypic features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of these underestimated and/or misidentified species remain unclear.

Clinical significance and antimicrobial susceptibilities of Aerococcus sanguinicola and Aerococcus urinae

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2011
A retrospective chart review was performed on 92 patients from whom 118 isolates of Aerococcus sanguinicola (n = 52) or Aerococcus urinae (n = 66) were obtained from urine cultures between October 2007 and June 2008 to assess clinical presentation and antimicrobial susceptibilities. The mean patient age was 82 (range 24-101) years.

Aerococcus urinae tricuspid valve infective endocarditis

Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings, 2022
Aerococcus urinae is an alpha-hemolytic, gram-positive coccus that is responsible for 54/1,000,000 cases of all urinary tract infections. Risk factors include male gender, advanced age, and genitourinary tract abnormalities. It has often been misidentified as Staphylococcus or Streptococcus due to its morphological similarities.

Aerococcus bacteremia associated with granulocytopenia

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1987
Two cases of bacteremic infection due to aerococci in granulocytopenic patients with acute leukemia and oral mucositis are described. Strains isolated from blood cultures of both patients were resistant to the antibiotics given orally for prophylaxis.
