Aspects of infective endocarditis. Molecules, microbiology, management, and more. [PDF]
Endocarditis, or heart valve infection, can be caused by a number of pathogens, many of which are Gram-positive bacteria. The diagnosis is based on imaging techniques such as echocardiography and on blood culture.

In this single‐center study with 245 patients with left ventricular assist devices, driveline infections (DLI) were classified by their local appearance using a modification of a score suggested by the Sharp Memorial group. The proportion of patients with DLI increased significantly during the follow‐up (p = 0.0096).

Occult Bacteraemia and Aortic Graft Infection: A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
We report a case of late‐onset aortic prosthetic vascular graft infection. We stress the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion for any patient presenting with fever on the background of in situ prosthetic material. We present the difficulties in managing these extremely complicated, often life and limb threatening infections and suggest ...

Aerococcus Urinae: Establishing the Pathogenesis of an Emerging Uropathogen [PDF]
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the world\u27s most common bacterial infection. Much is known about the infectious process (pathogenesis) of a few of the bacteria that cause these infections, especially E. coli.

Bacteriophages of the Urinary Microbiome [PDF]
Bacterial viruses (bacteriophages) play a significant role in microbial community dynamics. Within the human gastrointestinal tract, for instance, associations amongst bacteriophages (phages), microbiota stability, and human health have been discovered ...
