Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Towards computational flight dynamics of a passenger jet aircraft

open access: yes, 2014
This paper investigates the efficient generation of an aerodynamic database for flight simulation of a regional jet aircraft. A hierarchy of aerodynamic models is used, from semi–empirical approaches up to computational fluid dynamics analyses.

Role of Partial Flexibility on Flow Evolution and Aerodynamic Power Efficiency over a Turbine Blade Airfoil

open access: yesAerospace
In this study, the aerodynamic performance of a cambered wind turbine airfoil with a partially flexible membrane material on its suction surface was examined experimentally across various angles of attack and Reynolds numbers.

Impact of atmospheric icing on UAV aerodynamic performance [PDF]

open access: yes2017 Workshop on Research, Education and Development of Unmanned Aerial Systems (RED-UAS), 2017
This paper presents a first assessment on the impact of atmospheric icing on the aerodynamic performance of fixed-wing UAVs. Numerical simulations were performed in order to evaluate the impact on lift and drag on a 2D airfoil for UAVs. The results show clear evidence that icing increases drag while decreasing lift and the maximum angle of attack.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Influence of flexibility on the aerodynamic performance of a hovering wing [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2009
SUMMARYIn the present study, a computational investigation was carried out to understand the influence of flexibility on the aerodynamic performance of a hovering wing. A flexible, two-dimensional, two-link model moving within a viscous fluid was considered.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Aerodynamic and performance characteristics of a passive leading edge Kruger flap at low Reynolds numbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An experimental and numerical study was performed on a Clark Y aerofoil with a 10% chord leading edge Kruger flap to examine its aerodynamic performance at Reynolds numbers of 0.6 × 106, 1 × 106, and 1.6 × 106, to help to identify the forces and ...

A predictive capability for the aerodynamic deformation of convertible car roofs

open access: yes, 2010
The flow-induced deformation of a membrane in a flow is studied using experimental and computational approaches in a configuration that represents the effect of the aerodynamic load on a convertible car roof. The computational method couples a commercial

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
