Aeroelastic Rotor Stability Analysis

1976
Abstract : This report describes an aeroelastic analysis that provides a complete description of the dynamics and aerodynamics of fully coupled helicopter main or tail rotor/airframe/control systems. The analysis is designed to study stability characteristics in conditions of pure axial flow or in forward flight, for which it computes the systems ...

Identification of the stability parameters of an aeroelastic airplane

4th Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 1978
The problem of the parameter identification of large scale dynamic systems involving a system matrix characterized by approximately 200 elements is addressed. By using phase variable transformations, a mathematical model of an aeroelastic airplane is described in a form that is amenable to partial or piecemeal acceptance of parameters estimated from ...

The Effect of a Normal Shock on the Aeroelastic Stability of a Panel

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1983
The effect of a standing shock wave on the static and dynamic aeroelastic stability of a flexible panel is investigated using a linear structural and aerodynamic theoretical model. It is found that the shock is generally stabilizing. The lowest critical dynamic pressures are associated with shock positions downstream from the panel, where the panel is ...

Aeroelastic stability and control of an oblique wing

The Aeronautical Journal, 1976
Aerodynamic properties of oblique wings have been studied intensively at NASA Ames Research Center and also by the Boeing Commercial Airplane Co. Figure 1 shows the design proposed by Boeing for a 200 passenger transport intended to fly in the transonic speed range; the design employs an oblique wing of high aspect ratio. One feature of the oblique wing

Stability of Aeroelastic Airfoils with Camber Flexibility

Journal of Aircraft, 2014
M AXIMUM lift characteristics and vibratory loading of the rotor are limiting factors in rotorcraft performance [1]. To expand the range of helicopter capabilities, active control methods to improve performance and reduce vibratory loading are being developed. For example, Grohmann et al.

Aeroelastic Stability Analysis of Supersonic Cascades

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1979
This paper presents three solutions for the analysis of supersonic flow past oscillating cascades with subsonic leading-edge locus. A quite elementary solution is first developed for the case of slowly oscillating finite and infinite flat plate cascades which provides simple analytical expressions for the unsteady pressure distributions.

Numerical Study of the Aeroelastic Stability of an Overexpanded Rocket Nozzle

Revue Européenne des Éléments Finis, 2000
The authors study structural instabilities of a rocket-type structure using simple aeroelastic models. They also consider a fully coupled fluid-structure model with the purpose to assess the reliability of simple models to predict unstable behaviour of the rocket.

Aeroelastic Stability of Unstiffened Suspension Bridges

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1971
It is the purpose of this paper to present a theoretical analysis for unstiffened suspension bridges to determine the conditions under which an unstiffened bridge would be adequate. The analysis turns out to be far simpler than that of girder-stiffened bridges previously considered by the writer and yields a sharply defined, easily applied criterion ...
