Remanent magnetism as a contributor to some aeromagnetic anomalies

Geophysics, 1962
Abstract An investigation of some aeromagnetic anomalies in N.-central Montana shows that remanent magnetization is the dominant factor in anomalies over some rocks and a contributing factor in anomalies over others. In volcanic rocks, remanence is commonly S.-seeking down and has an intensity approximately 10 times the induced ...

Aeromagnetic anomalies in mainland Portugal and their tectonic implications

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1989
The aeromagnetic anomaly map for mainland Portugal shows a clear zonation correlated with the main structural units of the Hercynian foldbelt. Four zones can be distinguished from south to north: the South Portuguese Zone (SPZ) marked by small-amplitude negative anomalies of medium to large wavelength, the Ossa Morena Zone (OMZ) with medium positive ...

Towards the Automated Mapping of Linear Anomalies within Aeromagnetic Datasets

9th Biennial Conference of the Australian Pattern Recognition Society on Digital Image Computing Techniques and Applications (DICTA 2007), 2007
Aeromagnetic datasets can be used for regional- scale geological mapping in poorly exposed or studied geological terrains. Linear anomalies in aeromagnetic images correspond to faults and dykes, and their discontinuities and change of orientation have significant impact on various mineralisation phenomena. Thus for mineral exploration, robust detection

Analysis of aeromagnetic anomalies of parts of Chad Basin, Nigeria, using high-resolution aeromagnetic data

Modeling Earth Systems and Environment, 2020
High-resolution aeromagnetic data over a part of Chad Basin in Nigeria have been analysed with a view to delineate the geological lineaments, estimate sedimentary thicknesses and map the location of structurally controlled sub-basin formation within the studied area.

Pyrrhotite-induced aeromagnetic anomalies in western Germany

Journal of Applied Geophysics, 1994
Abstract Magnetic anomalies from four sites in Germany are described together with their interpretation based on magnetic modelling. The tops of the source bodies are situated several hundred meters below the surface. Boreholes at all the sites enabled the identification of pyrrhotite as the carrier of magnetization.

Aeromagnetic and gravity anomaly constraints on the crustal geology of Ohio

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1988
The U.S. Geological Survey and the Ohio Geological Survey recently compiled aero-magnetic anomaly maps and revised gravity anomaly data for crustal studies of Ohio. Updated structural and lithologic maps of the Precambrian basement surface provide additional constraints to limit interpretational ambiguities of the geopotential anomaly data.

Low-amplitude aeromagnetic anomalies in southeastern Missouri

Geophysics, 1964
Abstract Aeromagnetic anomalies of less than 200 gammas are associated with topographic relief of exposed Precambrian granitic and volcanic rocks of the St. Francois Mountains. Anomalies over hills of coarsely crystalline granite are as high as 100 gammas, over comparable hills of fine-grained rocks are as much as 200 gammas, and over

Aeromagnetic anomalies and perspective oil traps in China

Geophysics, 1994
Abstract Based on analyses of aeromagnetic data from known oil and gas fields in China, aeromagnetic anomalies have been classified according to their genesis into three types: (1) structure-associated anomalies related to volcanic rocks, (2) anomalies related to magnetic basement fault blocks, and (3) structure-associated anomalies ...

The role of remanent magnetization in the Southern Italian crust from aeromagnetic anomalies

Terra Nova, 1990
ABSTRACTInduced magnetization in the intermediate to deep crust is insufficient to justify regional magnetic anomalies. This is an unresolved problem, that cannot be completely explained by induced and viscous magnetization. In this context, the contribution of remanent magnetization in the Southern Italian Region has been investigated from a study of ...
