Generalized Omori law for aftershocks and foreshocks from a simple dynamics
A theory of the time dependence of earthquake foreshocks and aftershocks is presented. The theory involves the response to sudden forcing of a dynamics of self-driven acceleration to failure.

Abstract The 1906 Manas Earthquake is the largest earthquake recorded in the Borohoro Shan (BRS) since 1900. The reported magnitude ranges from 7.2 to 8.3, but uncertainties remain regarding its size, mechanism, and responsible fault. Similar confusion exists for the 1812 Nilke and 1944 Xinyuan Earthquakes, the only other Mw > 7 earthquakes in the NE ...

Aftershocks’ effect on structural design actions in Italy
Although earthquakes generally form clusters in both space and time, only mainshocks, usually the largest magnitude events within clusters, are considered by probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA; Cornell, 1968). On the other hand, aftershock PSHA (

ABSTRACT Earthquakes pose substantial psychological challenges for nurses who continue to provide care under extreme conditions. Trauma exposure and difficulties in emotion regulation may influence nurses' care‐related behaviors in post‐disaster settings. This descriptive and comparative study aimed to determine the levels of post‐earthquake trauma and

Load combination of aftershocks and tsunami for tsunami-resistant design
Occurrence of huge tsunami and numerous aftershocks are expected after a gigantic subduction earthquake occurs. Therefore, the important coastal structures (tsunami refuge buildings, seawalls and nuclear power plants etc.) must be designed against ...

Aftershocks driven by a high-pressure CO2 source at depth
In northern Italy in 1997, two earthquakes of magnitudes 5.7 and 6 (separated by nine hours) marked the beginning of a sequence that lasted more than 30 days, with thousands of aftershocks including four additional events with magnitudes between 5 and

Spectral Scaling of the aftershocks of the Tocopilla 2007 earthquake in Northern Chile
We study the scaling of spectral properties of a set of 68 aftershocks of the 2007 November 14Tocopilla (M 7.8) earthquake in northern Chile. These are all subduction events with similarreverse faulting focal mechanism that were recorded by a homogenous ...
