Forecasting Strong Subsequent Earthquakes in Greece with the Machine Learning Algorithm NESTORE
Aftershocks of earthquakes can destroy many urban infrastructures and exacerbate the damage already inflicted upon weak structures. Therefore, it is important to have a method to forecast the probability of occurrence of stronger earthquakes in order to ...

The 2025 Kamchatka Earthquake and Tsunami: Cascading Impacts and Risks to Japan
ABSTRACT On July 29th, 2025, a large earthquake (Mw 8.8) occurred near the Kamchatka Peninsula. This event caused a tsunami that reached Japan's Pacific coast, even though the source was far away. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of earthquakes and tsunamis and discuss how they relate to the recurrence possibility and risk in Japan.

Distribution of Strongest Aftershock Magnitudes in Mining-Induced Seismicity
The paper considers the distribution of magnitudes of the strongest aftershocks–depending on the time after the main shock–that occur during the extraction of minerals in tectonically loaded rock massifs.

ABSTRACT To enhance the structural robustness of bridges, a rocking arch‐shaped segmental pier with a double sliding system was previously proposed as a low‐cost solution to protect bridges in developing countries. The rocking behavior is triggered by halting the sliding motion, which increases the horizontal load‐bearing capacity and limits ...

Geophysical Investigations of the Structure and Tectonics of Southern California [PDF]
Regional variations in the crustal structure of southern California are defined by travel-time data from natural and artificial events. We show that the crust of the Mojave, northeastern Peninsular Ranges, eastern Transverse Ranges and Colorado Desert ...

Elastic strain energy and pore-fluid pressure control of aftershocks [PDF]
Aftershocks are well-known, however their triggering mechanisms remain unclear. The Coulomb failure stress change (ΔCFS) has been widely implemented to understand the spatial distribution of aftershocks.

ABSTRACT We perform probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) in the Shillong Plateau by clubbing the up‐to‐date earthquake data and seismotectonic properties of the study area. Twenty‐one areal seismic sources are delineated based on the updated earthquake catalog, tectonic, and fault plane solutions.

Abstract This study evaluates the seismic performance of elevated reinforced concrete (RC) water tanks in the Elbistan region following the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaras–Elbistan earthquakes. Field investigations, visual damage surveys, non‐destructive testing (ultrasonic pulse velocity—UPV), concrete compressive strength measurements, peak ground ...
