Expression of silver-stained nucleolar organizing regions (Ag-NORs) in human cancer

Cytogenetic and Genome Research, 1981
Five cases of ovarian adenocarcinoma, three cases of endometrial adenocarcinoma, and one case of transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder have been studied for expression of silver-stained nucleolar organizing regions (Ag-NORs). The modal chromosome number of these tumors varied from 37 to 72, with a wide range of chromosome numbers (13 to 150).

[Assessment of nucleolar organizer regions (Ag-NORs) in primary lung cancer--correlation between Ag-NORs and tumor doubling time].

[Zasshi] [Journal]. Nihon Kyobu Geka Gakkai, 1994
A total of 86 resected cases with primary lung cancer were examined on relationships between argyrophil nucleolar organizer regions (Ag-NORs) and other prognostic factors and correlation between Ag-NORs and tumor doubling time (DT). Survival rates were compared between patients with low Ag-NOR counts and patients with high Ag-NOR counts.

Image analysis of Ag‐NOR proteins in transitional cell bladder cancer

The Journal of Pathology, 1993
AbstractNuclear organizer regions (Ag‐NORs) were visualized using the standard silver‐staining technique in biopsy specimens from 112 bladder carcinomas. The area of individual Ag‐NOR dots and the area of Ag‐NOR protein/nucleus were measured using a Quantimet 570 image analyser and the results were then correlated with clinical, histological, and ...

Proliferative Activity in Oral Carcinomas Studied with Ag-NOR and Electron Microscopy

Ultrastructural Pathology, 2008
This study was conducted on 61 patients (27 males and 34 females). The age ranged from 27 to 81 years (mean 54 years). All suffered from oral squamous cell carcinoma and were treated by surgery and deep X-ray therapy (DXT). The UICC and TNM classification and staging recommendations were used for evaluation of the patients.

Ploidy independence of Ag-NOR number in neuroblastoma.

Laboratory investigation; a journal of technical methods and pathology, 1992
Ag-NOR number and ploidy have potential use in predicting prognosis in malignancy. The issue of independence has not been conclusively studied. In contrast to other malignancies in neuroblastoma poor outcome is linked to diploidy, allowing independent analysis of the reaction of Ag-NOR status to outcome.A consecutive unselected series of 20 pediatric ...

Relationship between Ag-NORs and T Lymphocyte Subsets in Children with Epilepsy

Tobacco Regulatory Science, 2021
With the acceleration of the pace of life, the number of children with epilepsy is increasing. This study was to investigate the relationship between Ag-NORs and T lymphocyte subsets in children with epilepsy. In the morning, 3ml of elbow vein blood was collected from epileptic children on an empty stomach.

Identification of nucleolus organizer chromosomes in sheep (Ovis aries L.) by sequential GBG/Ag-NOR and RBG/Ag-NOR techniques.

Cytobios, 1993
Seven Gentile di Puglia sheep (Ovis aries L., 2n = 54) reared in southern Italy were cytogenetically investigated to reveal which chromosomes carry nucleolus organizer regions (NORs). The use of sequential GBG/Ag-NOR and RBG/Ag-NOR techniques in prometaphase preparations revealed NOR-localization at the telomeres of chromosomes 1p, 2q, 3q, 6 and 25 on ...

Ag-NOR protein distribution correlates with patient survival in stage I endometrial adenocarcinoma

Virchows Archiv A Pathological Anatomy and Histopathology, 1992
The relationship between argyrophil nucleolar organizer region (Ag-NOR) protein quantity and prognosis was studied in 33 cases of stage I endometrial adenocarcinoma. Ag-NOR protein quantity was measured by image analysis in silver-stained sections from paraffin-embedded samples of curettings. Patients had a minimum 10-year follow-up.

Ag‐NOR studies in a human lymphocyte culture: Are variants localized to specific chromosomes?

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1995
AbstractThe genomic activity and polymorphisms of nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) were studied in an individual with routinely used AgNO3 and Q‐banding techniques. The results demonstrate that (a) the mean number of NORs per metaphase spread was 7.4, (b) chromosomes 14, 13, 15, and 21 showed variations of Ag‐NOR in decreasing order, (c) chromosome ...

Chromosome c-banding and Ag-NOR pattern in tardigrades

1998
The first data on tardigrade chromosomes were derived from histological sections (Henneke 1911; von Wenck 1914). Specific studies were performed in the early seventies on animals stained in toto with acetic lactic orcein and squashed (Figs. 3-4; Bertolani 1971, 1975, 1982). Besides the definition of the chromosome number of several species (often n = 5
