Ultrastructural localization of Ag‐NOR proteins and nucleic acids in reticulated nucleoli
Biology of the Cell, 1984Nucleoli with a thread‐like fibrillar structure found in several human breast cancer cells were investigated for the localization of Ag‐NOR proteins, RNA, DNA and associated nucleoproteins. Various cytochemical techniques were applied: the one‐step silver method for Ag‐NOR proteins, the Bernhard's staining preferential for RNP, the Feulgen‐like osmium ...

Histological investigation of physiologically resorbing primary teeth using Ag‐NOR staining method
International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, 2002Summary. Objective. The aim of this study was to investigate pulpal tissue of primary teeth in early and late stages of physiological resorption by means of silver‐binding nucleolar organizer region (Ag‐NOR) staining.Study design. Ten primary teeth in early, ten in the late stage of resorption and five sound premolar teeth pulps as the control group ...

In the present paper we report a technique which permits the simultaneous observation of C-banded material and the active NORs or nucleoli in both mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of mammals and insects. The use of the present technique permits to establish a complete correlation between the C-banded positive regions and the presence of nucleoli ...

Brain Ag-NOR activity in cholestatic rats with hepatic encephalopathy
Hepatology Research, 2002The serious repercussions of cholestasis in the liver and other organic systems have led to the creation of many experimental models in efforts to understand better its pathogenesis, prophylaxis and treatment. The extrahepatic cholestasis produces an encephalopathy by the deposition of neurotoxins in the brain similar to alcoholic and other hepatic ...

Identification of Ag-NOR Proteins, Markers of Proliferation Related to Ribosomal Gene Activity
Experimental Cell Research, 1994During mitosis, ribosomal genes are associated with a set of silver-stained nucleolar proteins designated Ag-nucleolar organizer region (NOR) proteins. The amount of Ag-NOR protein, estimated during interphase, may be used as marker of cell proliferation with a prognostic value for several human cancers.

Correlation of Ag-NOR protein measurements with prognosis in canine transmissible venereal tumour
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1995Ten canine transmissible venereal tumour (TVT) cases were studied by digital image analysis quantification on sections stained with silver to demonstrate nucleolar organizer regions (Ag-NORs). In each animal, 100 neoplastic cells were randomly selected for evaluation. The following parameters were measured or calculated: area of nucleus, area of Ag-NOR
