Gentamicin‐Loaded Carbonate Apatite with Dual Antibacterial and Osteogenic Functions for Combating Surgical Site Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A bone substitute with gentamicin physically precipitated onto the surface of carbonate apatite exhibits prompt drug release, high bactericidal activity, and osteogenic capacity. Efficient antibacterial activity mitigates early postoperative neutrophil accumulation, the status of which may serve as a potential parameter for evaluating the antibacterial

Biofilm-Forming Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria in Water From Distribution Systems: Occurrence and Public Health Implications

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology
Biofilm is a structurally-connected microbial community, covered by a self-produced polymeric matrix and adhered to biotic or abiotic surfaces. This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of biofilm-producing antibiotic-resistant bacteria in water from ...

Evaluating the Antiviral Efficacy of Encapsulated PKC Inhibitor BIM‐I against influenza A Virus Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores nanoparticle delivery of the protein kinase C inhibitor bisindolylmaleimide‐I (BIM‐I) to combat influenza A virus infections. Encapsulation in biodegradable PLGA nanoparticles improved safety while maintaining the compound's strong antiviral activity.

Isolation Defines Identity: Functional Consequences of Extracellular Vesicle Purification Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Four extracellular vesicle purification strategies are compared using ovarian‐cancer ascites and ES‐2 cell supernatants. A novel workflow links purification to function by combining particle‐normalized proteomics with matched cell‐free and cell‐based assays.

Plating In Top Agar

open access: yes, 2014
1. Warm plates to room temperature before use. Cold plates causes the top agar to solidify irregularly. DO not warm plates to 37° as the top agar will take forever to solidify. - Prepare top agar as the appropriate liquid medium with 0.7% agar. Keeping 100 mL bottles is convenient.

Nonribosomal peptides, key biocontrol components for Pseudomonas fluorescens In5, isolated from a Greenlandic suppressive soil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
UnlabelledPotatoes are cultivated in southwest Greenland without the use of pesticides and with limited crop rotation. Despite the fact that plant-pathogenic fungi are present, no severe-disease outbreaks have yet been observed.

An In Situ Embedded B‐MOF Sponge With Shape‐Memory for All‐in‐One Diabetic Wound Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A smart shape‐memory sponge dressing (P1A3@B‐MOF) is developed for accelerated diabetic wound healing. It achieves pH‐responsive corelease of Zn2+ and salvianolic acid B, synergistically providing antibacterial action, repolarizing macrophages to the M2 phenotype, and promoting angiogenesis.
