Measuring the Variance-Age Profile of Lifetime Income [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents an operational meaning to the concept of the variance in lifetime income in terms of the discounted variance of T mutually uncorrelated, sequentially realized, random variables.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

MAPLES: A general method for the estimation of age profiles from standard demographic surveys (with an application to fertility) [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we present MAPLES (Method for Age Profiles Longitudinal EStimation), a general method for the estimation of age profiles that uses standard micro-level demographic survey data. The aim is to estimate smoothed age profiles and relative risks

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Accuracy and Reliability of Oral Exfoliative Cytology in Age Estimation: An Observational Study

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Aim and Objectives: Age and gender identification are critical in forensic investigations, especially for unidentified human bodies. This study explores differences in nuclear size, nuclear area, and nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio between healthy individuals ...

More on the Cohort-Component Model of Population Projection in the Context of HIV/AIDS: A Leslie Matrix Representation and New Estimates [PDF]

open access: yes
This article presents an extension of the cohort component model of population projection (CCMPP) first formulated by Heuveline that is capable of modeling a population affected by HIV.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...
