Age-related DNA methylation changes for forensic age-prediction

International Journal of Legal Medicine, 2014
There is no available method of age-prediction for biological samples. The accumulating evidences indicate that DNA methylation patterns change with age. Aging resembles a developmentally regulated process that is tightly controlled by specific epigenetic modifications and age-associated methylation changes exist in human genome.

Predicting Successful Aging at One Hundred Years of Age

Research on Aging, 2015
Objective: The present study is based upon a multidimensional model of successful aging. It aims to identify subgroups of centenarians sharing communalities in successful aging profiles, and determine the role of sociodemographic factors and psychological, social, and economic resources on successful aging. Methods: A total of 80 centenarians were face-

Skin microbiome predicts age

C&EN Global Enterprise, 2020
How old does your skin say you are? What sounds like the beginning of a cosmetics ad could soon be an actual diagnostic test, thanks to research on how microbiomes in and on the human body change with age (mSystems 2020, DOI: 10.1128/mSystems.00630-19). Scientists have already found evidence that the human gut microbiome changes over time.

Age predictive biometrics: predicting age from iris characteristics

2017
As biometrics-based identity authentication systems have become more widely deployed, it has become evident that traditional identification and verification tasks are not the only application for such approaches. The prediction of individual, but non-unique, characteristics such as subject age is also an obvious option, since there are diverse ...

Predictive Intervals for Age-Specific Fertility

European Journal of Population / Revue européenne de Démographie, 2000
A multivariate ARIMA model is combined with a Gamma curve to predict confidence intervals for age-specific birth rates by 1-year age groups. The method is applied to observed age-specific births in Norway between 1900 and 1995, and predictive intervals are computed for each year up to 2050.

Predicting Age-Specific Dosing of Antipsychotics

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2009
Antipsychotic medications are the standard of care for both acute and maintenance treatment of schizophrenia, the latter requiring an indefinite treatment across a patient's life span. However, dosing and tolerability of antipsychotics have been studied primarily in younger patients, and very limited data are available for age- and phase-specific ...

Supercapacitors ageing prediction by neural networks

IECON 2013 - 39th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2013
Supercapacitors are devices used in wide range of applications, for example in automotive applications. Therefore, it is important to monitor and track their ageing. This paper presents a new approach for predicting the ageing of supercapacitors based on the neo-fuzzy neuron in association with the one-step ahead time series prediction.

Increased Age Predicts Failure to Rescue

The American Surgeon™, 2016
Failure to rescue (FTR), defined as any death after the development of in-hospital complications, is an important quality measure, but the relationship with age after a traumatic injury, has not been well defined. We sought to examine whether older trauma patients are at higher risk for FTR.

TweetGenie: automatic age prediction from tweets

SIGWEB newsletter, 2013
A person’s language use reveals much about the person’s social identity, which is based on the social categories a person belongs to including age and gender. We discuss the development of TweetGenie, a computer program that predicts the age of Twitter users based on their language use.

Age at menopause predicts age at onset of Parkinson's disease

Movement Disorders, 2006
AbstractWe investigated the association between age at onset of Parkinson's disease (PD) and fertile life characteristics in 145 women. Linear regression analyses showed a significant correlation between age at PD onset and age at menopause (P = 0.003), between age at PD onset and fertile life duration (P = 0.008), and a nonsignificant correlation ...
