Agent-based models of malaria transmission: a systematic review
Background Much of the extensive research regarding transmission of malaria is underpinned by mathematical modelling. Compartmental models, which focus on interactions and transitions between population strata, have been a mainstay of such modelling for ...

Multi-Objective Calibration For Agent-Based Models [PDF]
Agent-based modelling is already proving to be an immensely useful tool for scientific and industrial modelling applications. Whilst the building of such models will always be something between an art and a science, once a detailed model has been built ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Modeling in ecology or epidemiology generally opposes two classes of models, Equation Based Models and Agent Based Models. Mathematical models allow predicting the long-term dynamics of the studied systems. However, the variability between individuals is

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

How bad Isn't the agent-based model CATCHSCAPE? [PDF]
Due to mounting human pressure, stakeholders in northern Thailand are facing crucial natural resource management issues. The impact of upstream irrigation management on the downstream agricultural viability is a common source of conflict.

Workshop on Agent-Based Modeling [PDF]
After the success of the first workshop of Agent-based approach in Economic and Social Complex Systems (AESCS) in Shimane, 2001, we have held a similar workshop in Niigata, 2003. The title is International Workshop on Agent-Based Modeling. The aims and scope are summarized as follows: Agent-Based Modeling has become one of major techniques to design ...

An Agent-Based Approach to Immune Modelling [PDF]
This study focuses on trying to understand why the range of experience with respect to HIV infection is so diverse, especially as regards to the latency period. The challenge is to determine what assumptions can be made about the nature of the experience of antigenic invasion and diversity that can be modelled, tested and argued plausibly.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
