Assessment of Red Blood Cell Aggregation in Preeclampsia by Microfluidic Image Flow Analysis—Impact of Oxidative Stress on Disease Severity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
Preeclampsia (PE) is a hypertensive disease characterized by proteinuria, endothelial dysfunction, and placental hypoxia. Reduced placental blood flow causes changes in red blood cell (RBC) rheological characteristics.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

A Disposable Blood-on-a-Chip for Simultaneous Measurement of Multiple Biophysical Properties

open access: yesMicromachines, 2018
Biophysical properties are widely used to detect pathophysiological processes of vascular diseases or clinical states. For early detection of cardiovascular diseases, it is necessary to simultaneously measure multiple biophysical properties in a ...

The weekly structure of US stock prices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we use fractional integration techniques to examine the degree of integration of four US stock market indices, namely the Standard and Poor, Dow Jones, Nasdaq and NYSE, at a daily frequency from January 2005 till December 2009.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Understanding Price Variation Across Stores and Supermarket Chains: Some Implications for CPI Aggregation Methods [PDF]

open access: yes
The empirical literature on price indices consistently finds that aggregation methods have a considerable impact, particularly when scanner data are used.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Consistent Simple Sum Aggregation over Assets [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper discusses the issue of consistent simple sum aggregation over assets within the context of expected utility maximizing investors. The first part of the paper extends the Hicks and Leontief aggregation theorems of consumer choice theory to the ...

Characterizing Flight Aggregation of the Southern Pine Beetle [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Spatial aggregation patterns of flying southern pine beetles, Dendroctonus frontalis Zimm., were studied using a systematic grid of sticky flight traps placed in 3 beetle infestations.
