Fluctuation-dissipation theorem in an aging colloidal glass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We provide a direct experimental test of the Stokes-Einstein relation as a special case of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem (FDT) in an aging colloidal glass. The use of combined active and passive microrheology allows us to independently measure both

Evidence for the hallmarks of human aging in replicatively aging yeast

open access: yesMicrobial Cell, 2016
Recently, efforts have been made to characterize the hallmarks that accompany and contribute to the phenomenon of aging, as most relevant for humans [1].

Novel and unscrutinized immune entities of the zebrafish gut

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Understudied cells of the zebrafish immune system include bona fide immune cells and epithelial (‐derived) cells with immune functions. Research focusing on zebrafish cells which demonstrate similarities to mammalian immune cell counterparts may help us understand the pathologies in which they are implicated. Currently available and advanced tools make

Aging in humid granular media

open access: yes, 2002
Aging behavior is an important effect in the friction properties of solid surfaces. In this paper we investigate the temporal evolution of the static properties of a granular medium by studying the aging over time of the maximum stability angle of ...

From lactation to malignancy: A comparison between healthy and cancerous breast gland at single‐cell resolution reveals new issues for tumorigenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing reveals an opposite role of SLPI in basal tumors based on metastatic spread, along with shared activation of specific regulons in cancer cells and mature luminal lactocytes, as well as downregulation of MALAT1 and NEAT1 in the latter.

Validity and reliability of the Persian version of the SARC-F questionnaire among Iranian older adults

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics
Background Sarcopenia is recognized as a geriatric condition marked by a progressive decline in muscle mass and function. The SARC-F questionnaire was developed as a brief, self-reported, and cost-effective tool for screening sarcopenia.

Single Molecule Analysis of Laser Localized Interstrand Crosslinks

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2016
DNA interstrand crosslinks (ICLs) block unwinding of the double helix, and have always been regarded as major challenges to replication and transcription. Compounds that form these lesions are very toxic and are frequently used in cancer chemotherapy. We

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) : an emerging pathophysiological entity requiring the physician's attention [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Late-onset hypogonadism (LOH) is an emerging pathophysiological entity. Not everybody is familiar with LOH or even recognizes its existence. Since the 19th century women's life expectancy has become progressively greater than that of men and therefore ...
