Understanding Battery Aging Mechanisms
2019The aging mechanisms of Li-ion batteries are introduced in this chapter, and are experimentally investigated and modeled. From SEM it is found that the thickness of the solid electrolyte interface layers at the graphite electrode surface increase upon aging. Deformation of the graphite structure is confirmed by Raman spectroscopy.

Radiocarbon Mechanism of Aging
Rejuvenation Research, 2006A hypothetical mechanism of 14 C-generated influence on a person's rate of aging is offered. The mathematical description and the following approbation of the radiocarbon mechanism of aging made it possible to coordinate the Gompertz and Strehler-Mildvan laws and ...

Human amnesia cases (after surgical removal of the hippocampi or brain anoxia) have clearly established the critical role of the hippocampal formation in anterograde amnesia. Other parts of the brain may also contribute to anterograde amnesia (mammillary bodies, medial thalamus).

Were we required to characterise this age of ours by any single epithet, we should be tempted to call it, not an Heroical, Devotional, Philosophical, or Moral Age, but, above all others, the Mechanical Age. It is the Age of Machinery, in every outward and inward sense of that word; the age which, with its whole undivided might, forwards, teaches and ...

Mechanisms and Evolution of Aging
Science, 1996In their Perspective, Lithgow and Kirkwood postulate that evolutionary theory predicts that the process of aging is not subject to selection in the same way as other physiological processes such as development. They then describe the genetics of aging in the worm Caenorhabditis elegans and how what we know about the

Aging mechanisms in fruit flies
BioEssays, 1996AbstractGenetic analysis of Drosophil has provided evidence in support of two proposed evolutionary genetic mechanisms of aging: mutation accumulation and antagonistic pleiotropy. Both mechanisms result from the lack of natural selection acting on old organisms.

Apolipoproteins and aging: emerging mechanisms
Ageing Research Reviews, 2002One of the goals of modern medicine is to foster successful aging. In order to age successfully, one must accomplish two things: first, survive; and second, survive with good health and a sharp mind. In this discussion of apolipoproteins and aging, the focus will be on apolipoprotein E (apoE), a protein with three common isoforms, which has a large ...
