Nano/micro-plastics effects in agricultural landscapes: an overlooked threat to pollination, biological pest control, and food security [PDF]

open access: yesNat Commun 15, 8413 (2024)
Biodiversity-associated ecosystem services such as pollination and biocontrol may be severely affected by emerging nano/micro-plastics (NMP) pollution. We synthesized the little-explored effects of NMP on pollinators and biocontrol agents on the organismal, farm and landscape scale.

Edible Jumpers Powered by Shell Snapping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates an entirely edible, centimeter‐scale jumper by instantly releasing elastic energy through shell snapping. It can jump up to 36 cm, comparable to previous non‐edible jumpers. Moreover, this jumper can be loaded with an edible latch to trigger the jumping upon humidity stimulus autonomously.
