Synergistic effects of PGPR and amino acids on growth, productivity, and N availability of edamame (Glycine max L. Merrill) [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Edamame is a legume known for its efficient nitrogen utilization. This study aimed to analyze whether the application of amino acids derived from lemuru fish and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) could improve plant performance and N ...

EFFECT OF USING DISCARDED DATES ON PRODUCTIVE AND REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF LACTATING FRIESIAN COWS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Animal and Poultry Production, 2014
Twenty lactating Friesian cows with average live body weight of  550 ±18  kg in their the 2nd to 5th parity were used to study the effect of replacing yellow corn grains )YCG) by discarded dates (DD) in concentrate feed mixture (CFM) at levels of 0, 33 ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Microwave-Assisted Extraction of Hemp Seed Oil: Process Optimization for Enhancing Oil Yield and Bioactive Compound Extractability

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science
Hemp seed oil is a valuable source of unsaturated fatty acids. However, its high degree of unsaturation makes it highly susceptible to oxidation, which can compromise its quality and nutritional value.

First record of Cheilomenes sexmaculata (Fabricius, 1781) (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) from Honduras [PDF]

open access: yesCheck List
Cheilomenes sexmaculata (Fabricius, 1781) (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae), a ladybug of Asian origin, has been recently reported in the Americas. Here, we record it for the first time in Honduras.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Exploring Genotype by Environment Interactions for Yield and Agronomic Trait Correlations in Black and White Rice Genotypes in Uganda

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy
Evaluating genotypes for stability and high yield (YLD) in rice is crucial for sustainable production and food security, as genotype by environment interactions (GEIs) complicate the selection of superior germplasm for breeding.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Genetic and Environmental Effects on Nodulation and Yield Among Selected Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp) Genotypes in Uganda

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp) is among the most important legume crops grown especially in the Eastern and Northern regions of Uganda. It is a climate-resilient and protein-rich legume crop that also serves as a soil fertility restorer.
